Hi all, sorry for the delay, my development on this kind of stalled when my Mini was stolen from outside my flat a month ago. Yeah, really. Anyways, I'm pretty much ready to send out some prototypes as soon as my trader registration is complete. Watch this space.

I should be able to get the a non-electronic version off the ground quite quickly for the iphone 5, but for the charging/audio vevrsion i'll need to get a phone to play with...

Thnk the design to have one fold away could be pretty simple, you could use the original spiny ashtray, cut out th bottom and have a little cradle in there that drops down with the connector on it, so when you put your phone in the original sides will hold it in place (if they are the right size) all you would need is to have your little adapter on a cup and socket style joint into the ashtray thingy. If that makes sense to you it might be worth a go if you are going to be selling a lot.

Hi All,

Another update - The plastic I was using on the prototype was PLA, which is biodegradable very easy to work with, but over the weakend heatwave I found that it softened a little causing plastic clips to deflect and give way, loosening the fit in the ashtray slot. I am therefore switching to ABS, which has a higher melting point and should aleviate this problem. It did mean that I needed to make some upgrades to my printer, but I just did some test prints and they came out well. Shouldnt be too long now.

Ben

how you getting on with the ABS?

ive had a Velleman 3d printer for a while now and spent most of my time printing stuff i like but with no real application (Iron Man Arc Reactor etc!)

not tried ABS yet but just ordered some new PLA from a source in New Zealand which is supposed to be head and shoulders better than the chinese stuff i have been using

He hasnt been active since november last year so I doubt he is still making these, I am thinking about making a rapid prototyper and if I do then I will probably end up making little things like this but at the moment I dont have the money to spend on one but keep your eyes peeled next year as I may get creative :P
