I didn't like it myself, just way too modern and over the top judging from the bits I watched, apart from Rowan Atkinson of course.

The segment about social networking was particularly annoying, I think that was the bit after the MINI driving up to the house. I'm not even sure what that had to do with the Olympics or Britain.

We inveted the Internet, so without it there would be no net based social networking, let's all start celebrating this country again and all the great things we have done / can do if we put our minds to it, then maybe we will pull ourselves out of this current recession and move forward to a better future

Not only was it hugely good to watch, I also learnt a little bit. 12 hlours ago, I'm ashamed to admit I didn't know the first debate was produced by a Brit!

Most of it had nothing to do with the Olympics. It was about the history of a great country and showed how we have changed over the years. Like above we are still a great country, all be it with a few problems, and we have it a lot better here than in many parts of the world.

Mr Boyle put together a great show and it has done us proud. A great start to what is hopefully a great Olympic games and put all the other problems related to it away.

Ah I suppose that does make sense, although I think most of the main social networking sites are non-British which is why I didn't make the connection.

Yes, I suppose it is a good thing that these kind of events (though I didn't enjoy this ceremony personally) can make the British public proud of their country, but will they support British industry for example? I suppose we'll have to see in the future if things change. Most people seem to come across as not really caring to me. Even our own government uses foreign vehicles for police cars for example. Hopefully the Olympics will be good for the economy.

I know that, I just didn't make the connection because Facebook is an American site I think, which I think it was trying to imitate.

We inveted the Internet

No we didn't. We (Sir Tim Berners Lee) invented the world wide web. There's a difference.

The Americans invented the internet.
