Most of it had nothing to do with the Olympics. It was about the history of a great country and showed how we have changed over the years. Like above we are still a great country, all be it with a few problems, and we have it a lot better here than in many parts of the world.

Mr Boyle put together a great show and it has done us proud. A great start to what is hopefully a great Olympic games and put all the other problems related to it away.

Well said!

.........and here are some pictures of the Olympic Special Edition MINI featured in the London 2012 opening ceremony arriving at the modern British family house.
Did or can anyone get a photo from a tv recording of the classic Mini image which was featured in the background of the 1960's music/dancing section of the ceremony but most seemed to have missed?

The segment about social networking was particularly annoying, I think that was the bit after the MINI driving up to the house. I'm not even sure what that had to do with the Olympics or Britain.

We inveted the Internet

No we didn't. We (Sir Tim Berners Lee) invented the world wide web. There's a difference.

The Americans invented the internet.

A mute point, but without one there wouldn't be the other, my point was to make the connection for the OP

I thought it was pants had to turn it off i put road wars on that's much more entertaining! and yes they should of used a mini instead of a Bini even though it's 53 years old it's still one of the biggest iconic british cars ever made! That's something to be proud of!

Did anyone notice in the Queen/Bond scene, when they flew over the chap with the Union Jack painted on his face, that he was waving from a Classic Mini?

Omg!! I feel so sorry for all your lives man! I'm pretty sure that chat got old round about 2001? Give it an actual break! End of the day. BMW sponsored it..their mini was used. Do you all conveniently forget that BMW owned the 'original' mini in the end..yet still bought them! Yeah. Thought as much..bore off with the snooze fest!

Obviously this is aimed at those who obviously can't get over the fact there is a new mini. Which is German. Which is probably better than theirs. Which isn't gonna go away any time soon. And who need to do something more productive with their time rather than this childish carry on.

Amen.

Amen, in my eyes, when BMW took over Rover in the 90's, every Mini manufactured under their ownership shares some of the same dna as the new MINI. The new Mini has done wonders for the brand. Its just a shame some narrow minded people cant get over the fact that the new MINI deserves recognition. Sure, haters gonna hate, im just glad my life is more interesting than moaning about something trivial. Myself and my partner have 2 MINI's and also a Classic. Thankfully we belong to a part of the community that does not have nay hang ups.

As for the ceremony, the only good bit was Mr Bean, im glad its all over. As for showing off all things british, where were the ethnic people, corner shops, chavs, drug dealers ect. Thats what Britain is all about, not the pompous ******* they televised.............
