Well, I have to say, I am a little disappointed with the new iPhone 5. The changes really don't seem to be that spectacular. A slightly bigger screen, a faster processor and a camera that can do panaoramic shots. iOS 6 will also help to improve it, but that will be available of the 4 and 4S as well.

They have made it stilghtly smaller and changed the charging slot as well, which now means you need an adaptor to make all of your old accessories work, and if you have a music dock for it, it wont sit flush or anything anymore for the new model.

I'm not a big fan of the colour changes either. The black model is now black and slate - I like the slate down the sides but not around the back as well. The white model is now white and silver.

No NFC either from what I can tell which is a little disappointing. If Apple are not careful, Samsung will leave them behind.

Disappointed. Probably not worth the upgrade from the 4S for the majority of people to be honest.

Also, it says under Windows compatability that you need Windows 7, Vista or XP. Given that Windows 8 is out imminently, I trust that it will also work with that - I believe Windows 8 is a big step away from the likes of Vista and 7. That will be a big oversight if they have got that wrong, although I assume it would easily be sorted with an update.

So is anyone ordering one? Was anyone waiting for it to come out but now considering something different?

I haven't bought one - I just checked the specs out on Apple.com.

I have recently lost my 4S and was waiting for the 5 (I will be away for a few months so wasn't going to bother until I got back anyway) but I might not bother with the 5 now to be honest. I'll probably either get another 4S or I'll consider something else.

I was a little disappointed by the specs of the Nokia Lumia 900 as well - given the competition out and the need for Nokia to catch up somewhat in the smartphones market, I think they could have specced it higher than they have.

Galaxy S3 is looking the best bet at the moment, but I really am not a fan of Android.

I have ordered the 5 and i'm looking foward to it.
Certain carriers won't have access to LTE though, something to do with OFCOM apparently.

iPhone 4 user here...

You are right that its not a spectacular bump from the 4S - but compare my 4 to the 5 (2 year gap) and its a whole world better!. There is no need to get the new iPhone every generation - If you can afford it then upgrades every 2 years suit nicely.

Personally i am holding onto my 4 until next years iteration - because it is still running fast and reliably.

Im not disappointed about the lack of NFC.... And i doubt its omission will let samsung walk all over Apple - NFC has been around for a LONG TIME, and has not took off one bit in terms of real world usage on smartphones. (The Nexus S had NFC in 2010)

My guess is that NFC wont take off for smartphones, and if it does - it will be because it was included in an iDevice release.

Apple seem to have the power at the moment to decide what smartphone tech will take off (ie. high DPI phone displays started with iPhone 4), and what wont (NFC).

p.s. Not a fanboy - Interested in all sorts of tech, apple and non apple - I know many will disagree with my post but its just an opinion.

I think it looks awesome and bet it performs awesome too! I can't afford it, but I have a 4 and 4s anyway so would be a bit of a waste. If I did have money to just spend like that though then I'd definitely get it. If I only had a 4 then I'd consider the upgrade to 5

to be honest i'm not fussed about NFC, It wouldn't be that much of a gain to me. I know the iphone 4 could do a similar thing with paypal where you just "bump" phones to transers funds, but i'm not entirly sure how it worked.

I did think they would of changed the design a bit more though.

I'm sticking too my 4. Going to wait for a 5s. Partly because my contract will end in perfect timing, but also. This is an awful upgrade. It looks terrible imo. I don't like 4" screens, and I don't like the aluminium. It will grow on me, I didn't like the 4 at first.

02 phoned and offered me an upgrade to it for 200 but my contract gets extended another 2 years. that means im tied down for 3 more years :0

Oh please I'm still on the 1st generation iPhone I bought on the release night 5 years ago.

I'm going to wonder into o2 next week and ask about getting back onto contract, what does 1GB of inclusive data equate to?
