I have several apple products and dislike them all. Pixels have died and their battery life is awful!

I get the feeling you hate Apple products...

NFC. Near Field Communication. Basically allows two devices to communicate with one another when held right next to each other. Much like an Oyster card or that contactless payment Barclaycard do.

I'm a bit of a Android fan and I'm disappointed with the Iphone5, I think of Apple as the competition and when they create a new technology it pushes the other manufactures to go one better. At the moment the Android manufactures are leading and apple are trying to catch up, most of the "new" features have been around for years.

Disagree. Lets be honest, Apple are still on top and definitely now with the 5 out soon

Edit: and I'm not just saying that because I use apple products, it's the truth. Apple make excellent products that perform awesome and look as good. I've used other top phones and computers, but it's always apple that are on top of the game

Really don't want to get into the whole apple vs Android thing but Android sales are now out numbering apple (granted there are more manufatures and phones) here's one of hundreds of articles that show the difference between the Apple and Android

i_jonez - I have just read that article, and I have to say what a load of crap. I'm not saying that Android devices are rubbish by any means, but those points are someone trying desperately not to be upset that they didn't get an iPhone. A few observations:

If I need to email a presentation to my boss, I'll use the computer I did it on. I have no intention whatsoever of ever trying to create a quality presentation (or other serious document for that matter) on a phone. You don't need 3rd party software keyboards because the Apple one works spot on. I don't need a screen bigger than 3.5" let alone 4" to use the device properly. For me, the S3 is on the big side.

And the point about the icons? I assume he doesn't know you can move the icons on to differrent screens and have what you want on the front screen etc? The phone tells me the time, I don't need a widget for that and the weather is available with one swipe from any screen. Oh and haptic feedback will just drain your battery quicker.

The only real points are the connector and NFC. Until the 5, the connector thing wasn't really an issue because so many devices all had the same.

As for Androind outselling Apple - that was always going to happen given that Android is on so many different handsets. Now make a realistic comaprison, and compare the sales of just one Android device to the iPhone. It wont even be close.

Samsung have pretty much copied the design of the iPhone anyway - one home key in the middle at the bottom and everything else on the screen. Sure the sizes and shapes vary but the principle is the same.

I'm glad that there are other phones available and that Android/Samsung/whoever are pushing Apple to keep at the top because competition is good and it would be really boring if everypne in the world owned an iPhone. I love the Apple vs Android debate. I won't even go on to Macs vs PCs and iPads vs Android tablets. It does however annoy me when people have no real reason to dislike Apple products, other than jealousy or jumping on the 'it's cool to hate Apple bandwagon'. Not so long ago, Apple were the outsiders and people loved them then. It's funny how success breeds hate.

And i_jonez - you belong to Apple! Look at your name.

Got to agree that the guy in that article does just seem to be bashing the iphone totally. Although after skimming over it - The bit where he says that email attachments are a 'new' feature to the iphone 5 - Is that right? You couldn't use email attachments on an iphone until now? O_O
The point about the presentations I think was just highlighting this fact, not suggesting that people regularly create professional documents on their phones - Which is just daft for any phone to do. Maybe handy for drafting bits of work on a train or something like that but not creating a complete document.

The file system point is kind of relevant, you can view and edit all the files on Android devices however you like, but how many people actually do this I don't know. It is handy for dragging and dropping files onto the phone like a pen drive, but I only really add/remove photos on my samsung anyway.

I think the new connector was a really bad move to be honest, the amount of docks and things that will now be useless is a major disadvantage if you've got a 4 and looking to buy a 5.

I'm sure the iphone 5 is great to hold though, being thinner and lighter than before with the same quality feel is about the only thing I think the iphone beats Samsungs on. I say samsungs and not android cause the rest of the android phones i've used have been poo in comparison.

I'm not fussed about the connector change, really. Anyone who thinks that Apple were gonna keep it 30-pin forever and ever are a bit deluded. It will change again or just get removed completely a decade or so down the line.

The whole PowerPoint argument is not that you can create one on your phone ( that woul be un realistic although can be done ) it's that you can use your phone to send documents via email. For example if you have a document stored on any form of cloud service you could save it to your phone and then email it when your out and about.

3rd party keyboards give you choice, I'm sure not everyone likes the Iphone keyboard! Ok a 3.5" screen is a reasonable size but once you use a bigger screen you see the benefit, much nicer for web browseing and watching videos etc if Apple didnt see tge need for a bigger screen they would not have fitted one. Haptic feedback makes typing emails etc much better as you can be certain you've actually hit the keyboard correctly.

Anyway we're going off topic ( my fault ) back on topic the Iphone5 is disappointing

The main problem with the new connector is the size of the adaptor. Surely it could be smaller, it'll spoil the look of any nice dock you plug your phone into

Not worth the change from my 4S, although someone from work is going to get a iPhone 5 so I will have a play with it :)

He's not saying you should prepare a powerpoint presentation on your phone. He's pointing out that the standard Apple mail application doesn't allow you to attach files which your device is unable to open. There are loads of situations in which this would be a problem, just because you have never come across them doesn't mean it isn't a problem.

Keyboards, again just because you like it doesn't mean everyone does. The point the article is making is that Apple do not allow the user any choice about what keyboard they use where as Android provide their own keyboard (which in my opinion is perfectly adequate) but also allow you to use third party keyboard, providing the user a choice.

Again, you've missed his point when he was speaking of the icons. He isn't saying you can't move them around, he's saying you don't have the power of widgets. So you've got a hard coded function to swipe and get the weather, great. I can swipe once and get Facebook, swipe again for Twitter, swipe again for an app that tells me what I need to buy when I go shopping. It goes on and on and I can have it how I want it, not how Apple say is correct.

Haptic feedback may make a small difference to your battery usage but to some people it's important so not including it on the basis that it drains the battery instead of providing an option to the user to enable or disable it is daft. Again Apple don't give users a choice.

Before you place me on the "it's cool to hate Apple bandwagon". I use a MacBook Pro at work as well as an iPad. At home I have home built PC and my phone is a Samsung Galaxy SIII. None of that changes that the iPhone 5 really is miles behind.
