Maybe you can borrow some wheels for the MoT? You'd have to check the specifics for afterwards, whether it's illegal to park on bald tyres or only to drive on them.

If you let all the air out, you wont be driving on them anyway. or just take them off and put in on axel stands... so long as the car is road legal otherwise they cant touch you else it would be illegal to change a wheel at the side of the road

Just borrow some for the MOT.

Well I've rung them asking them to proceed with the work. The guy on the blower wasn't too happy when I have him the 6-week timeframe it may take to get the funds together. I will still try to get an extension on my overdraft. Fingers crossed. At least for this saga and then I can gradually lower my overdraft back to £400 or so.

I want to get out of living on my overdraft but desperate times an' all.

If the bank declines to extend my overdraft then I'll have to try another way to come up with some quick cash.

This whole thing is for the greater good but it's a bloody mess getting there.

On 'road wars' they have to wait for the offender to drive off before they can stop them, so it must only be an offence to drive with bald tyres.

I reckon that's a great idea Ethel

Bald tyres is a construction and use offence and whether or not you are committing an offence by leaving it on a public highway in such condition is a bit of a grey area. I would suggest by doing so you are 'failing to comply with a construction and use requirement' as stated below.

Chances of you getting caught are probably small if it's not being used (unless there are cords showing or they are very obviously bald) but is it worth risking another fine and/or points (per tyre)

Section 41A (RTA)
41A. Breach of requirement as to brakes, steering-gear or tyres.
A person who:
  • contravenes or fails to comply with a construction and use requirement as to brakes, steering-gear or tyres, or
  • uses on a road a motor vehicle or trailer which does not comply with such a requirement, or causes or permits a motor vehicle or trailer to be so used, is guilty of an offence.

If you're not actually using it, then can't you just take the wheels off and put it up on bricks? Surely you can't then be prosecuted for illegal tyres if you don't actually have any?... And if anybody says anything about it being up on bricks on a public road, your response would be "oh my god, someone's theived my wheels!"

I just read most of the comments on here....mostly a waste of time trying to be funny etc nothing constructive and mostly boring.
Give the lad a break being skint isnt fun, and sometimes you have no choice ie leaving a car off the road.
Cant believe nobody could stick it on there drive or even help with repairs maybe even have some old parts laying around....
Shame on you all

Well tyres are only about £40. I wouldn't want to fit part-worn ones.

Just received a letter today from the DVLA. Due to keeping an unlicensed vehicle on the road, they want £165 by the 18th October. I just can't get a break. :( Also says installments are not acceptable.

God damn.

£250 to pay back to a generous doner.
£423 to release the car.
£700 repair bill.

and a £180 to pay back to my mum tomorrow.

And as I said before, I was about 10 days from getting the car completely off public property. What an absolute nightmare this is.

Oh and the £76.50 (?) for 6 months tax once I've fully paid Minispeed. But that was a given anyway.

Well I don't want to lose the car. Of course I don't want to lose it. I'm still going to try and pay all this off.

One sort of saving grace I have is some cashback that I'm waiting to go into my bank account. Just over £90 which Quidco posted in yesterday. Just got to wait a couple of days for that to show up.

I'm going to have to sound like a nob end to say this but, if your parents clearly see your struggling to pay for things, why are they charging you rent.

This is probably not the correct way to say this but maybe you should say to your mum and dad, at the moment I can't afford to pay rent. Once I have paid off all the other stuff then I can get back to paying rent but atm its just not possible, im sure they'll understand there your parents for god sake. There job is to help you.
