more 8)

started working on the doors, cutting out holey areas, bracing the doors. as they were so flimsey we put a peice of steel tubing in the door to give it some strength and for some protection in a side impact.

used out new sport welder, admitantly, i went a bit mad with it.... hope i never have to remove that in a hurry!!

Posted Image

had to fabricate the whole corner of this, as it was full of ally patches and copius amounts of filler... doesnt look too bad, although it needs a lot of work still!!

hehe, had both of them there, both of them at different stages! pic a bit poor tho.. :/

Cheers guys,

I have finally got 3 pic of the car when racing!

Two pre paint job ( It was metallic purple before!) and just after he rolled it at maggots. This shell is the same, so he has done a fantastic job in pushing it out, but il put the history up later, it explains more. And the third is its last race, it dropped a valve.

Also, can you get magnesium revolution wheels? 10x6? These are far too light to be ally!

Cheers, not at the moment, I have fabricated some Chanels that sit in the doors so I can put sliding glass back in the doors, but havnt put pics up yet, because I'm on holiday 8). But just constantly thinking up plans and ideas for the car.

Ordering some specialist components conrods for my clubman's engine, too worried about my current ones.. Only issue is, the engine is assembled... DOH!! Oh well, rather that than seeing it throw a rod on the rollers at 7500 rpm, I seen it, and it ain't pretty.. :P

got some pictures of the car way back when

here is what bob sent to me,

There are 2 pictures of the Mini taken after I rolled it at the Old Beckets at Silverstone when the Mini's were there supporting the 6 hour relay race where a famous Porsche was running called Moby Dick! Can't remember the dates but will try to dig through my old notes.

Two weeks later it was all pushed out and repaired ready for a race at Cadwell Park. People did not believe it was the same shell.

I had borrowed some hydraulic gear from Longbridge and with guidance from my friend Ron who worked in the prototype panel body shop at Longbridge pushed it all back in to shape and resprayed it to the colours you are familiar with. Ron was the guy who lightened the hinges

The third picture was at Snetterton which turn out to be it's final meeting. I am the one in the foreground looking pretty pissed off.

I have slowly been writing the spec of the Mini for you and now need to get up in to the loft to find my old notes to make sure I have remembered everything.

Graham told me about you project notes on the Mini Forum.

the 2nd filler hole being there when the car was just a stripped out road car denotes that it IS a real Cooper S shell, this was before it had its major lightweight rebuild ( Short amount of time to do it in, but it was at longbridge!)
the glass is all still there, it was all replaced with plastic during the build. GRP boot lid aswell

last ever race! love a bit of nostalgia!

thanks, love the history if it!

Got the V5 back yet?

not yet, but working on it, should get it all back as was, doesn't look like we shouldnt. but worst case is re rwgister it and apply for an age relatep plate which would be any 68 plate not used..

i have managed to finish the other door yesterday, up in undercoat now ready for top coat tomorrow.

Due to having some major work to do on a customers mini that the work and date has just been set and confirmed, i have a month to get this all panelled up, fully painted with the subframes built and rolling + steering.. Wish me luck!
