You know how it goes, you intend to upgrade your install but take it easy over time. Adding to it and gradually getting a fairly presentable system...

Then you wake up and realise that you're totally incapable of doing things gradually and have already bought 90% of it!

Well, I do.

So from my initial aim of getting a HU that doesn't turn itself down at random and has buttons that work! I've somehow ended up with 2 amps, new comps, big 3, distribution blocks and signal wiring.
At this juncture it's a bit pointless to stop so I may as well change the sub and finish the job!

Except I can only find 1 option, that being the JL Audio 10w3v3-2.

I did find the Pioneer TS-W259D4, but Ruckus said they were rubbish

So here's the requirements:

10" (I can stretch to 12 but it means some remodelling of my enclosure)

2ohm pull. SVC or 4ohm DVC, I'm not (that) fussy.

500w Genesis signal going in

Approx 0.75 - 1 cu.ft. (sealed) enclosure.

Are there any other options than those listed and does anyone have experience with either?

Cheerios,

I never said that Pioneer were rubbish, its just there speakers are not up with the rest of there kit... ;D

So bacily if you want a sub to do the numbers you are talking about i.e. 500 watts rms, for £100 you are going to be lucky.
You could look at second hand or drop your power requirements down.

I have about 300 watts rms in to my sub with a tight sealed enclosure and its is loud enough for most stuff. If you want a SPL system then a 10" is not really the way to go anyway.

This focal sub handles 250 rms 500 max and is half the price of the JL. I haven't heard on but based on the rest of there range i guess SQ will be up if not higher than the JL.
http://www.caraudiod...ub-p-25-db.html

And before you worry about over powering it consider that my Seas Sub is rated at 150rms 400 max. and has had 300+ up its ass for over 2 years without problem.
And clean signal is important as long at the signals not clipped then most subs can handle way more power than they are rated at.
I've only ever seen burnt out subs from being OVER powered* in DB drag systems, but I've seen many burnt out subs from UNDER powered clipped signals.

*6kw in to a sub rated 2kw... you get the idea.

Thanks, dude.

I may have a bit of a polar attitude to "not as good" equaling "rubbish" rather than slightly less good :P

The power thing is mostly because I've inadvertently ended up with 500w of good power on tap and have to justify it to myself.
The build is definitely SQ orientated, once It's all together i may come begging for some help actually setting it all up!

As I've not found a 2nd hand JL yet I might give the focal a go, hmm or wait a week and go JL...
Although the focal only drops to 42htz it seems.

I did consider adding some rings on the front of the enclosure to allow use of a 12", but not sure i could make the effective volume for the enclosure. Are there any 12" options that spring to mind?

What budget you got for this sub?

You got the profile sub ultra then for the amp if its 500watts?

Just a profile sub, 500w @ 2ohm.
Budget wise, the 10w3v3 would be the last step. I'd rather pay less though of course which is why I'm considering the Focal.

What do you have in mind?

So 350 at 4ohm's

might be better to aim for a 4ohm 350 watt sub.

That is loads in a mini.

Ground Zero subs are a pretty good for their price and do drop quite low...you may have to push your budget a little higher and you will be under powering the sub but at least you know it wont blow due to excessive play ;D

I'm not going over the price of a 10w3v3, I may be able to pick up a 10w6.

Just wondered if there was anything inbetween that might fit the bill. Pioneer and Focal are looking the options at the lower end currently, trying to source some reviews / opinions on the Focal at the moment.

If you are going down the SQ route and could push your budjet, DLS make a damn fine sub, i have a pair of 10" in my build and as ruckus will tell you they sound great.

Hmmm, just had a look at them. The DLS RW10i seems a nice fit and (assuming the price converts from US, hah!) only £100 too.
No idea where to get one mind you.

Also have a suggestion of JBL P1224, it's a 12 but I think with a couple of rings I can expand the side enclosure to accomodate it.

Any input on them? :)

Seems I can get a DLS RW10i via ebay for about £110! Is that what you're using?

Rather tempted by the P1224. Good price and right spec, mad sensitivity and gets good reviews. Enclosure size is rated at 1cu. ft. which I think I can stretch my boot side box to meet.

Ruckus, do you know off hand how bit your enclsosure measured?
