New section welded in & new subframe mount stiffener plate -

Rotten section of tunnel cut out & new bit tacked in -

Nearly ready to start fitting the floor. I'm hoping to have all the welding done by the end of the week which would a very nice feeling indeed!

Just out of interest for when I do mine but,
How do you plan to mate the tunnel with the new panel, butt welded or joggled then welded both sides?
Have you braced the car anywhere before cutting the floor out or is this not necessary at all.
Thanks in advance.

Nice project - depending on whether you're more time- or budget-limited I would recommend an m-machine full floor pan if time is an issue. I've done one of these, the quality and fit were good and you'll get a tidy finish inside which will be bonus £ if you're doing it for sale. Seeing as yours has had a billion repairs over the years (like mine had) I think it would be worth the extra 300 quid (even though it's not actually that much difference once you factor in the heelboard and reinforcement panels, crossmember, jacking points, battery cable runners etc etc)
Good luck! Be watching this one
I may well do that yet, haven't decided 100%. Thanks.Looks like a good project!
Bit of a question... Where is your ignition? lol
Ah yes, the only non-original thing I think is it has little steering lock/ignition barrel on the l/h side of the steering column. Whoever done it just put an extra switch in the switch panel to fill the hole!
Some export MK1s had a column mounted ignition switch/steering lock fitted. This was similar to the MK3 type. The hole for the original switch was covered by a chromed bung.

Hi Matt, the edge of the floors are joggled & welded both side. I braced both sides between the A & B posts then across from side to side by the B post as when the floor is all out the rear bins & rear quarters flap around in the breeze a bit. The dash rails keep the front end end stiff enough I found.
That's interesting about the ignition barrel. It was exported to Germany when new so it is probably original. I'll keep that then.

Back down on it's wheels to start on the bodywork

First job is to strip the many many layers off orrible cracked & crazed paint off the roof. A can of nitromors & a lot of scraping later -
