If you think its hard to straddle a cushion in a Mini try it in a Robin Reliant.

Personally I love Traffic Calming; it bought my house and my Lotus.

The problem is in bad design due to interference from non-engineer Managers and funding restraints.

No joke, if anyone lives in Leytonstone on here, there is a road just up from the roundabout, dad almost managed to beach a golf.

THAT IS A NO GO FOR A MINI!

There is a road near me that you can't straddle it with a modern car, you can however with one of the work transit vans...

Ah ha, but the Mini made its name in rallying. A lot of rally roads would make the roads with speed bumps seem like the M1.
Just raise the suspension slightly to get a bit of decent ground clearance and a Mini is great on bumpy roads.

I hit one yesterday pulling into a petrol station, no faster than i would a normal speedbump put in by the council

And now i've got to figure out what has gone wrong with my starter motor when I hit the damn thing!

the council ones, i don't mind, but private companies putting them in on their car parks etc take the michael!

Just drop a gear and hit them at 40, the silencer goes about a foot over the jump.

Of course I'm joking folks, but isn't it just me who finds it quite funny trying to bottom out? When we go out for dinner at college its kind of a game haha. Of course if I had a maniflow system etc it might be different, but not with a farty sportex!

Ye my car defiantly has a problem with speed bumps

It actually turned out that the grease nipple part of the locking tab had broke off from the rest on the bottom swivel pin, so it slowly unwound until it snapped off >_<

Check your swivels people!!!

That was about 3 hour after it happened the battery went dead (turns out the battery was duff too >_< ). It’s ok though it was a quiet estate at about 2 in the morning and one of my mates had his car pulled in front of mine with his hazards on.

It actually wasn’t too bad, I had it back on the road at 3:30 the next day :D just 2 new swivel pins and a new brake hose. Luckily when the gear box hit the speed bump it didn’t split it or anything just left a nice gouge in the bump :P .

Just go through the middle if there's no on coming traffic. I always want to but a car always comes at the exact moment I get to the bump. Otherwise drive over it so that your right hand wheels go on the bump and the left don't. And check that your exhaust is hanging properly. I readjusted mine and haven't bottomed out since.

Majority of speed humps I contend with are just outrageous. I really don't understand how they can be legal. I am now looking at driving something else which is a shame because I don't want to sell the mini.

I can understand why the BMW MINI is so big otherwise they just wouldn't sell so many due to the bumps.

The thing that bugs me about speed bumps around my way is not that that there are speed bumps there at all, it’s the fact that they are slim but tall, with steep sides. This means that on most modern cars, vans, 4x4s etc, you don’t even touch the bumps, and I regularly see people doing 40+ down the road I live on, past a primary school. And due to the shape of the speed bumps if you do need to go over them (i.e. in the narrow mini) they are horrendous and you need to take them very slowly. And when coupled the fact the bumps are every 20 meters or so past the school and with everyone else going much faster, traffic soon builds up behind you haha
But the point I’m making is that they don’t slow modern vehicles down, whereas adding something like one of those ‘give way’ narrow, single lane sections would slow people down.

And there was that time where someone with a lowered car thought they could keep up with the school run mums and caught his sump on one bump at 30-40 mph – he couldn’t
