There is a guy who goes into our local sometimes who is a member of the village 'Speedwatch' vigilantes. He was going on abouty the need for speed bumps in our village and was expecting me to be 'anti'. I said that the sooner the better as it would mean I could check and set the dampers on the rally Minis by trying them at 20, 30, 40, 50 & 60 mph until I got an optimum setting all round without having to drive too far. That really p****d him off!

Those island style bumps are outrageous and they drive me mad! I don't see the need for them as most modern cars are wide/high enough to fly over them. I love my mini but when I'm not local I wish I was able to get insured on a wider car as you never know where they are going to appear. >_<

sorry it took so long to reply, everything is all tight and proper on the underside and my cones as A-OK as i replaced them a few months back along with the subframe and many many other parts. Perhaps i just forgot how much of a pain speed bumps are, i was driving my mothers feista for abit so mayb i got used to the extra height. But as has been said i know loads of people with big 4X4s that boot it straight over them no problem. But i guess it is my own fault for driving what i drive. Not going to change to another car, i just wanted a little moan.

Used to take them all at 30-35 in my old proton (they peed me off) but never take them at more than 10 in the mini, even with the smootha ride cones :(

Detest them lol, there's one particular one near my local shopping centre, right outside a carphone warehouse that is like a small and very steep hill! It's the only exit out the shopping centre, so I have to go over it if I'm feeling lazy and drive into town. EVERYTIME I go over it, even going over it slower than snails pace, it scraps my exhaust that makes me cringe and shudder lol. To make it worse, there's always someone standing outside and watching lol. One of these days, it'll scrap it so hard my Mini will sound like a Tank, I'll look in the rear view mirror and my exhaust will be just be sitting there in the centre of the speed bump whilst all the Carphone warehouse staff just laugh :D lol

I don't think I have ever found a speed bump my car doesn't scrape on ha. I'v even scraped it on level crossings, hump back bridges and just slightly bumpy roads. My fault really though.

I've just raised my Mini a little to help with the holes in the road and with speed bumps. Only half an inch all round but it drives better for it. :proud:

How low is your car? I could go over any speed bump at 30 with an RC40

Me too, with 10" wheels that are (ever so slightly) smaller than 12".
