Anyone got any pictures of supercharged minis
And any modifications to improve the suck through kits like having copper pipe on the inlet

Here is my Vmax Scart built engine and sc, also fitted Mega Jolt using MED's pulley and pickup. Still running it in, but would be keen to see what I can do about the intake pipe / carb freezing up! The head is an SPI and so both heater hoses are on the rad side of engine, I would like to use the regular heater take off on the transfer case side of engine and do something with copper pipe. Or I could use some form of electic heater in the air filter.

Vmax do a carb heater kit - how do you find your setup? Im considering one as a winter project :)

Found by putting a water jacket round the pipe transformed the driving totally, no hesitation, smoother and no icing up

Cool thanks for sharing some photos
I'm going to try the copper pipe idea as I can't weld
But I was thinking of wrapping the copper pipe withe exhaust wrap to keep the heat it better

Like the welded water jacket!! I am still running mine in, so really only getting used to it. It runs a bit rough, bit I'd put this down to the MegaJolt not being mapped 100% as I am still running engine in, Vmax cant make full map using all the rev range until a few hundred miles and oil change later.

I am well happy with it though! It did stop the other morning when it was very early, 5am, freezing and a bit foggy. It was probably 2nd time in use in anger, eventually limped it home, but since then its never done it at all, but also I have not taken it out in such cold / misty conditions so there could be a pattern! Not sure what the actual issue was though.

Hello,

Here's mine:

I added a little enclosed heating element into the air filter and mounted a switch under the dash. Works really well, never had any problems with the throat of the carb icing up since fitting it.

Cheers,

Jon.

When do you turn it on then? What type of heater is it? Also, is that a steady bar on the s/c body to thermostat?

A friend had a HIF44 on his Suzuki SJ which kept icing up.

He used something that looked exactly the same as this.

Neat and tidy and worked very well.

I only turn it on when it gets to about 10 degrees or less. I had a problem with the throat of the carb icing up which caused the throttle to stick open, not ideal. It has never done it since fitting this. It doesn't get red hot but warms the throat up enough to prevent ice forming.

It was an enclosed heating element from RS Components. I can't remember the exact model number but I'm sure a search on here would help find it. I'll have a look otherwise.

Yeah it is, it developed a small air leak from a small gap in the weld of one of the intake runners. I bought a length of steel bar from B & Q and made this (and sprayed it silver). All the force from the supercharger was just being held by the welds and the manifold studs. It just helps spread the load.

Cheers,

Jon.
