Thanks for that. The heated collar thing looks like a good addition also.

Did you fuse the small heater? I bought a 15 watt 80degrees one. Running 12 volts, this is less than 2amps? Is it worth it to fuse it?

It's to wrap around the inlet tube

Is there any reason it won't work
Will it work ??Attached File  image.jpg   86.57K   24 downloads

Yeah I did, I put in a fuse on the positive line. I think that's the same element as I have off the top of my head. Considering it is running near fuel, it's really important it's fused even though the current is fairly low, otherwise if there was a problem with the heating element or a wire sparked, it could potentially cause a small fire/explosion within the air filter.

If you are planning on drilling a hole in the back of the filter housing for the wires it's also worth getting a little rubber gromet to fit in the hole. This will prevent the wires from chafing on the sharp edge left by the drill.

Hope this helps.

Cheers,

Jon.

The carb heater that Jonny F suggested works a treat! It gets very warm very quickly. I have fitted both the RS heater in the air filter and the SU carb heater on the same circuit/in car switch. Used 8amp wire and a 5 amp fuse, seems fine. And works! Still get some mild dew on the inlet, but no ice around the carb and running is great. I dont know what heater is working better, or if in fact one is no use at all as I installed them at the same time.

Ok we'll I've just fitted my supercharger and I've decided to try something out
I've warped copper pipe around the inlet pipe but I've also wrapped it with exhaust wrap to try keep the heat in

Hi, what size copper did you use and how is it running?

I used 8mm micro bore of ebay to wrap mine then plumbed it into the cooling system.

yeah, i've got the heater element, but in my initial testing after rebuild, I'm getting fuel coming out of the air filter after engine is turned off. Granted, it's not after a run but making adjustments whilst sitting in the garage.

Found by putting a water jacket round the pipe transformed the driving totally, no hesitation, smoother and no icing up

Graham, I had one of your intercoolers on my Escort RS turbo and it was superb! I love this, and would love it on my mini!

A thread revival.

I have been watching various heater element ideas and came up with this which works a treat.
