I fitted one of these to my passenger side. £16 plus delivery. I think Magnum make them? These full length ones are better than the ones that are cut around the crossmember.

Got the inner sill welded in but the front floor was a pain in the backside due to it being misshapen.

IMG_2122_zps926eafcd.jpg

IMG_2123_zpsaed792c9.jpg

so could not go mad grinding the welds flush on the front but insulation and carpet covers that.

Now for the nemesis of minis the oversill, this one though is getting the 4" treatment basically to keep costs down for Paul

IMG_2124_zps24699aa7.jpg

once cut and adjusted it will be fine.

Then this will need to be modified a bit first before the sill goes on.

IMG_2125_zpsa805090a.jpg

it maybe genuine but its pretty cack so will need some welding and trimming before fitting

Is there no end to your talents Neil :-)

That's what I like to see an oversill being cut down to size

Watching with envy :-)

Neil, you are putting me to shame on this at the moment! I will never be able to sell this after all the work you are putting into it! I'm now feeling i should revisit the boot floor and do that to the standard of the rest of the car....

So on with the sill fitment, first of was the jacking point. i added some extra weld to it before positioning it an welding in place

IMG_2126_zpsdbda0f1a.jpg

then it was onwards with the modified oversill. The cutout for the jacking point was far too big so the little reinforcement plate Magnum fitted was removed then two new sections were added to decrease the aperture.

IMG_2127_zps3a03ba39.jpg

now it was on with the shortened oversill (cut down to 4"'s) many many clamps

IMG_2128_zpse303b016.jpg

plug welds R us.

Just needs grinding down

Yes where ever I can I do. There will be some paint damage but I then try to touch it up as far as possible. The sills need all the protection they can get do when we have finished welding and grinding back I try to force more paint in where possible followed by Dinitrol or Waxoyl.

Do you cover up the the bit that's actually being welded? in one of your pics it looks like the backside of the area that's going to be spot welded has paint on it.

There will be some over spray on them but under that will be some weld thru zinc rich primer. What I do when the panel is clamped in place any areas that have got paint under the the plug weld holes I then clean those up. I normally try to keep only the weld thru primer on any mounting flanges now.

It works for me so I'm happy to do this.

Sorry Steve did not see your post. I use 0.6mm wire with Argo shield light gas from BOC.
