You have mot been abale to take the id off a previously registered shell and add another ID to it for quite some time - since the dlvc cottoned on

Virtually all the ex-works rally Minis, which changwe hands at around £100k have been re-shelled. so what?
The shell used to be just another part number which could be ordered from your local BMC dealer.
So long as the shell is the correct type/model surely there is nothing wrong morally with that. Of course, the V5 Police' will be along shortly.

They were reshelled with new shells generally and only riveted chassis plates at that time so you could eradicated the original ID totally.
Nothing wrong morally but some immoral ringing has spoit it of late.

it amazes me of how many mini's i see at shows with early 70's registration numbers that are clearly re-shelled into mk4/5 shells, you cant tell me that all of these were done with brand new shells or were done before the dvla put the mockers on it.

the mini scene must be full of ringed cars!!................ :ohno:

Very true.

How can heritage justify the cost increase?
Supply and demand I suppose

Don't forget to sign the Classics Monthly Reshell or Die Petition:
http://www.classicsm...n-our-petition/

Re-shelled lots of Mini's over the years for road and racing, using both new shells and legitimate used shells, mainly back in the 1970 & 80's when not even the DVLA much cared. For instance I know of a lot of Mk1 Cooper S that enthusiasts drool over today at shows that were rebuilt on 'Mk1 Mini 850 automatic' donor shells back in the '80's when it was simply not worth financially restoring a rusty Cooper S shell. The restorers bought the rust free 850 autos as shell donors off 'little old lady owners' so nothing was stolen! :-)

id rather a mini was reshelled than scrapped as long as its not stolen or you trying to pass it off as something its not mini's used to be so common on the road they were like the bini is now. better to save them than scrap them
