hi all im new to this forum, i found it at college whilst looking for the jetting and needles for a hf44 (i belive it is ) inch and half carb to suit i belive what is a 1000cc mini mayfair engine ? i got the car as a project of ebay and have done everything to it to make it road going again i have got it thought MOT but it runs really rought as it is. MOT bloke said i need a new carb but the carb had come of my old mini with a 1300 and run really well.

so basicly my questhion is what jetts and needle will i need for my inch and half carb to suit my 1000cc engine with exhause system on.

car is a mini mayfair, year 1991 i belive the engine came out of the same car and is standerd, but not 100% sure as im just going of what the bloke said.
any advice and tips would be much appreciated a lot to make my mini work again like my old one :)
thanks ben

You could be a bit mixed up on the carb I'm guessing its HIF44 which is 44mm (1.75") generally thought of as on the large side for a 998cc

You would be better with a HIF38 or HS4 both these suit the 998cc

If it is a HS4 then needle for standard engine is AAC

If you could post pictures it may be possible indentify...

Without knowing the engines history it may have been changed

If the carb is one unit with no extra section on the side (float bowl) its an HIF, look at the below picture pay attention to the circled area and see which one matches

the 38 and 44 stand for 38mm and 44mm

hi there ( Crazy About Mini's ) yep thats right hif 44. it dosnt have float on the side its under carb like this one in pic. :)

i have no idea what the engine has done but dont want to take it apart to see as could be apart for a while with out having correct tool's to rebuild like. but i took it to college and i set it up on the forgas best i could and i got it to run okish to a degrea better than what it was.

* with choke on it will run and rev sweet but kept at about 3.000rpm you can feel it jolt as your sat in seat so to say and with

* chock off revs to about 1500-2000rpm and it sounds like it is hitting rev limit and dosnt want to go any more so im asuming its to lean ? so iv got a air leak somwhere ?

any advice or help would be amazing :) regards ben
