[ToM 2012]

 

looking good mate. subframe looks like new did you paint it or just clean it? 

 

Just cleaned with a rag, scraper and some cleaning liquid i used on the front of the engine.

 

Im on a two week course wich has left me with VERY little time to do anything atall, getting home from a 6 mile walk back at 6 O,clock and then working on the mini is abit tiering

i get what you mean i was doing the same when i was doing my mini finishing work in the week at 5 ish and then i worked till 10 at night some nights i was there till 1 in the morning bolting away. but its got to be done haha cheers tom

Sup dudes and dudesses  ,

 

Got a few hour's at the end of today so getting bits here and there done still  .

 

Im focusing on the nearside for now as theres more to work with and sort of more room around that side  ,

Saw a crappy part on the stiffener so chop chop and weld in new ......

 

The area in question:

And finaly, the new piece tacked in and then seam welded and ground down flush:

 

Just before this repair on the stiffener i chopped out the top engine steady bracket with errrrr a spot weld drill bit that was actualy a big grinder   oh well, i'l learn someday  .....

 

Nice big mess on the bulkhead haha:

 

Zinc primed the bulkhead crossmember for now until i get some thick gauge steel to re-make to top steady bracket:

 

 

(ALSO: in the last picture you can see the repairs needed around the master cylinder area, this is a real bugger of an area to reair/clean up as just slightly catching one of those threads would render a strip down of the pedal box which i really dont want to take out. Lucky for me a may have got my hands on not one but two sand blasters possibly FOC so thats my plan of attack in that area).

Said i would do a little update tonight so here it is.

 

Weathers been to crap to un-sheet the mini but i,ve got a few bits done that were bugging me

 

First up was to start making the top steady mount that goes on the bulkhead:

(Still some work to do on that but the basis is there in 3mm angle)

 

Also got some things in first layer of paint:

 

Oh and found out i only had one brush left so had to make a permanent mount for the brush haha:

 

And lastly, the bench grinder now has a bench to sit upon  :

 

 

Planning to (hopefully) get an early night tonight for a good few hours on the mini tomorrow,

so with that in mind...Goodnight

Hello hello,

So as i said i would i got a bit done on the mini today, took delivery of a few bits and bats so the list is shrinking slowly  ..

 

Started cleaning up the messy shocker mount area i previously butchered at in preperation for the new inner wing being welded in.....

 

Before:

Need to re-make the

inner stiffener panel for the area first before i weld in the inner wing.

 

Got the radiator/shroud and rocker cover in primer and paint:

 

And the new inner wing being rubbed down ready for some primer:

 

After a spray in etch (dry's quite quickly), it got a brush over with some chassis black:

 

Oh and i got another inner wing which i'l be using in the future for my other project mini  :

 

Also bought these purple circular objects  :

 

And a couple of RSP's;

 

 

Now if you dont mind im off to try and get this chassis black off my wrist   Cya

Ahh yeah thought id get right on the case of protecting those wings, got side tracked on them actualy haha, atleast i,ve cleaned the garage up abit now  .

Its a Rover checkmate of which is part of the red hot and racing green varient, i know they only made 1500 of each and they came with these wheels stock (Probably a money saving exercise by rover).

Aha yeah, well its 70% mk2 actualy haha, need to put some metal back into it and update my thread for it (Its been a while)

I'l keep my eye's and ears open for some for you, going seeing a guy over a few parts wednesday and he's breaking his rally mini so i'l ask what he's got in the alloy wheel department when im there.

 

Ahh love the rally builds, started of with those intensions for the mk2 but the whole concept kinda faded out

 

Thing is with these later special/limited editions is there mostly made out of chease  early mk1/2's are much thicker steel in comparison

And yeah, to be fair, my current shell is mint, but my old one was dreadful! Not one panel was rot free! It was dreadful. And I'd love a mk1 or 2 but have too many projects at the moment
