Day off from work, 3 reports due for thursday and an interview on tuesday and pop goes the radiator :(

Great timing!

Standard 998cc 1989, although future plans to beef it up slightly when its taken out of regular service end of this summer.

Which radiator from minispares do people reccomend?  Has to be from there as its the only place local to me.

Straight replacement or upgrade to the more pricey but more efficient/lighter version? What are peoples experiences?

Is it a straight swap if I upgrade, or will i need to change the hoses at all?

Cheers

Alex

I think it depends what you mean by "beef it up slightly", the standard rad tends to be adequate for most mildly tuned engines, and a brand new one should cool much more effectively than the tired old one that you're used to anyway. I'm using a standard rad on both my mini's and have never had any cooling issues with either of them, (one is a 1275 MG metro unit and the other a 1275 metro with upgraded head & cam), if however I was running a monster tuned 1380, then maybe I'd want to upgrade.

I went with this one http://www.minispare...|Back to search for my new rad. Has a drain hole for easily draining coolant and in case you want to use an electric fan at some point. Keeps my 998 nice and cool and will work great when I put a 1275 in.

If you can wait for it? Much cheaper and it is a copper top not the cheap plastic you can get.

As said it depends what your future plans are, if your going to modify then go for the 2 core, but if only staying a standard or mildly tuned 998 then and rad minispares sells will be up to the job

I think il save my money and go with the standard replacement then :) Will only ever end up a mild 998.

While you're at it, fit a new bottom hose, as they've a tendency to go, and are a pain to swap with the radiator in situ!

Hoses are only a few months old...shame on me for trying to save a few pennies, should of changed the radiator when it was all apart.
