Yes the relay can stick, which will stop the dim-dip coming on. But also check the resistor and its fuse and connections.

I think I'll replace all the female spade connectors too as a preventative measure.

Throw the dim dip relay away. It is not legally required, or particularly useful. Join the blue-red and blue-brown wires, insulate the others, and also throw away the gold coloured resistor and insulate its wires. You will then have one less source of headlight problems. The DDU has the bad habit of making the dipped headlighs fail suddenly, so it is best to be gone.

I'll give that a go at a later then. So all the other wires that go to the relay, apart from the blue-red and blue-brown ones, don't need to be connected to anything? The resistor itself has been painted over on the wing, but I could always bypass it. I take it that the resistor needs to be bypassed for it to work rather than just leaving it in?
Everything electrical is working fine again now - turned out to all be caused by a rotting fuse box and corroded wires around it. Thanks for everyone's help!

No, just throw the resistor away. It is bypassed when the blue-red and blue-brown are joined, and all the other wires then become irrelevant.
