Hi bud looked at a mates car with this block in it both those pipes run to the standerd black inlet pipes so won't be needed unless you are using the whole inlet system. He has the small one just running under the battery tray to nothing lol

Thanks again Hoody, I shan't worry about them for now then. Have had to slow progress down for a while so i can get some money together to afford a welder ( or some welding. ) and a radiator! Have become a TMF+ member and have a few items for sale that i took out of the mini to replace with the allspeed subframe and x16xe engine.

Will put the engine and gearbox up as well today.

Gave the mini a good clean to get all the sap off of it yesterday as it was looking like such a state but it came up really nicely! I've just been offered 4 weeks work starting next Monday so in a month and a bit i should be equipped with a welder and shall invest in some breaks. A month seems like a long way away right now but hopefully ill be able to get something done before then.

Thanks! Just earning some money be able to afford to finish it off  >_< I would recommend it and i haven't even driven it! The build has been so much fun and I've learned so much, the main thing I'd do differently if i was doing it again is id buy the subframe new from allspeed and talk to them before starting. Can't wait for payday!

Looks a nice little project you have there mate...I say little - I can imagine there being quite a few headaches involved!! I've always loved Minis and am tempted to buy one and do this conversion myself. I have a 140bhp C16XE engine in bits that I used to have in a D-reg Nova...used to shift  :D slighly easier to fit as they don't have the immobiliser to sort out with the wiring but other than that pretty much identical from the outside. Its tempting lol.

Have you manged to sort the air filter out? You can buy the inlets with the throttle body on the other side so the air filter sticks out over the gearbox...would that be an option? Or convert yours like that?

Have you made a start on wiring it in yet, or working out what goes where?

Good luck with the project mate.

I finally got a welder! A mig 135te was recommended to me so I picked one up on pay day last Friday. My welding skills aren't as good as I'd like them to be but after playing on some scrap metal to get the settings about right i managed to weld the box in the front bulkhead to a standard i was more than happy with. I started welding from the front with seem welds around all joins. I Started by tacking about 5cm apart and then joined the dots as best i could and then went over it all again to neaten it up and grinded it back a bit to make it a little neater.

I then moved inside the car only to find that id cut the hole out to be too big so there were a few gaps to be filled. I used strips of 3mm mild steel to do so and although its not as neat as id of liked it to be it looks and feels more than strong enough.I also Blanked off the hole that the original gear shifter came through the body with a plate of 3mm mild steel.

For my first ever try at welding, although it doesn't look very neat i am very happy with the results and had a lot of fun doing it! I'm painting the metal today ready for the engine and subframe to go back in tomorrow.

I have ordered a radiator that is arriving today so after i have fitted it i am hoping that there isn't very much to do before i try and turn the beast over. The only thing i am unsure of is where the black tube (final image) that comes out of the original master brake cylinder is supposed to go. I know that it attached to the a series but is it supposed to join to the vauxhall engine somewhere? or do i just blank it off?

Help would be much appreciated!

Nova rich, i haven't sorted the air filter out yet, i am hoping that i can squeeze it in how it is, it may take some bet tubing and a bit of grease but hopefully it will fit! if not i shall deal with that problem when i come to it which is likely to be tomorrow or the day after :L I havn't looked into the wiring much but i think that after all the wires are plugged into the ecu, there are very few wires left to deal with but i don't have a clue which one goes where but again i will deal with that issue when i come to it.

Good welder bud same a mine he he with your welding tacking 5cm apart is great but when joining the tacks up do one on one side of the panel then the other to allow the metal to cool slightly and go back and forth even a few in the middle just move about so you not putting to much heat into the metal or it will worp other than that it looks great. It's not how good the weld looks its how it penetrates. If in doubt give it a clout and if dont break off should be good lol

Also are you using gas if so what co2 argon mix is best for mig so I'm told I just use c02 and it is sufficient and a lot cheaper

It seems to be a gooden! I used the 'give it a clout' method and all seemed fine so i am very happy! I am currently using the co2 that came with the welder but i brought a co2 argon mix which i shall use after the bottle i am using now has ran out so i can compare, I neglected to compare the price of the 2 but the mix was only 11 quid or so :)

But are they the small bottles ? If so you will do double the welding you have and it will be finished lol try get a pub bottle for the draft coke machines and a cheap regulator of eBay lol or some motor factors now do argon mix called hobby gas but is not cheap but not ridiculously expensive

Finally found some time at home off uni to spend some time on the mini this afternoon and it feels like it's been ages! There is soooo much work to do and I'm loving the thought of spending the majority of this summer working on it although my hands are bleeding after just a few hours on it today  >_<

One of the last things i got for the car was a radiator so i decided that today was the day to fit it which of course was very ambitious! I've been hoping from the very beginning of this project to keep the standard front end which so far has been a massive ball ache! After a fair bit of cutting metal away i managed to get it looking like this:

This is clear of the oil filter (by amount 5mm) but in this current position i wouldn't be able to get a bonnet over it and its very close to just about everything else! After cutting away the majority of the passenger side inner wing I'm feeling that a fiberglass front end wouldn't have been such a bad idea from the beginning - It would make it soo so much easier to work on.

I'd love to see what other people have done and of course any advice is appreciated as always! This is the space I have to deal with and i still have no idea how I'm going to fix it in place when i eventually get it to fit!?

I would use the space over the gearbox and ditch the front mounted rad.
