Hi everyone,

The choke mechanism is sticking on my standard 998's HS4 - it's the waxstat jet itself rather than the spindle or cable. When I pull it out the jet doesn't go back in unless I lift up the bonnet and push it in. Recently, the jet won't pull out at all even if I give the cable a good tug (trying not to break anything).

I had this problem when I first got the car a couple of months ago. Putting some oil on the linkage and jet cured it, but since then the carb has been taken off and cleaned at a garage and now it's back to sticking. WD40 hasn't helped.

Would more oil on it cure this again? Or is there something else that I should try first? It would at least pull out at first but now it's completely jammed. Luckily the engine starts and runs fine without it (if I let it warm up for a minute), but I'm worried about the effects of colder weather.

Thanks,

Glen

The jets not slightly bent due to movement in the stabliser bushes is it? tell tale marks on the bulkhead right below the jet means its come in contact with the body.

If it is slightly bent, is it possible to bend back again as a temporary measure? How much are new jets? :/

Could it be that the needle is not centred on the jet...?

Remove the slide and needle and then work the choke if it sticks its the jet bent, you dont have worn stabliser bushes? or see small marks on the bulkhead directly below the jet assembly do you? classic problem worn bushes = engine movement = jet hits body and one bent jet assembly

There's no marks on the bulkhead, and the piston moves up and down fine. I've freed it up a bit with WD40 and it's not jammed anymore, but it's just not *quite* free enough I click back on it's own when the choke's pushed in.

Is it possible to replace waxstats with standard jets? I've heard the waxstats are a waste of time.
