Cut a long story short, been doing a full blow restoration on a 72 slabby, fully dressed engine, custom interior blah blah blah, as it stands, its got a stage 1, 1litre lump in her, but as of a couple if days ago i acquired a 1310 big bore, with a big valve head, its just in bits, ideal time to tinker. Just trying to way up if its worth 'toying' with it, or just build it up as is, planning on using it purely as a show car, so the odd blast down a country lane to put a smile on my face, been thinking about cams, roller rockers, gas flow/port the head, double valve springs, bigger carb, n possibly a 1l box.....if i do the above, what sort of bhp we looking at, hoping it will be high 90s low 100s, and how much hahahaha, and also, whats the ideal cam to use, any ideas will be greatly appreciated, cheers

With a 100 bhp engine you are into the realms of needing a closer ratio straight cut gearbox and a lower final drive ratio.

As it will be revving very high it will need a centre main bearing strap and a full dynamic balancing.

The place to start is by deciding what the car's actual use will be.If it is for real competition then go for 100+ bhp. If not, then keep it a a nice road engine with maybe 85 bhp, standard gearing, good low-end torque and good reliability.

To build a 100 bhp engine and transmission which will work well and be, in relative terms, reliable, is very expensive, maybe £2500+.
