OK so started the day like this...

D7C15B1C-2713-4371-9748-738ACD6E6983_zps

then after a clean up and shuffle of engines i got to the wiring loom...

E6D43DE4-68F9-45AA-B316-BA57AEA08243_zps

FC8CCA00-944B-4600-88F8-616FD70781FD_zps

now i know they just look like wires... you can see in the first 2 is how shot one wire was... completely shed its insulation the whole way through the loom.

this did some damage in places to other wires but mostly shed its own skin.

from what i can see (and without a wiring diagram or the greatest knowledge reading them) the 3rd picture someone had spliced an extra 3 wires into one wire, i could tell which one was the original so i snipped the 3 extras out and repaired the 2 original halves.

i think there are some extras in here still... like the pink wire with insulation written on it... none of the other wires have writing on them at all.  I'm taking an educated guess that the previous owner fitted spots to the front but wanted all the headlight wiring to run them.

ive dressed everything over from my busted engine to the engine i got from mini_mezza .. . and lifted the engine above the hole ready for fitment tomorrow. I've fitted the speedo cable... I'm going to need to replace the CV boots... can i do this from the GB end of the driveshaft or do i need to remove the hub end ??

New year new post...

you've all seen an engine bay before.... i got the engine in and started with ancillaries. i have connected everything apart from the exhaust the fuel pipes the water pipes (of which i think i need a bit more...)  the problem is the festive season keeps me out the garage!! i put all my overalls on and walked out to the garage yesterday with the mother of all hangovers ! i looked at starting work... took my ovies off again and went back to bed. today might not be that much better but I'm aiming to get fluids (clutch brake oil water) topped up and bled tomorrow then we can try starting her!!

I've already booked the car in with a local a series guy to rolling road setup the carb :) she should run lovely !! i hope  O_O

SHE LIVES!!! i fired her up (after i found the missing battery cable i tucked into the from panel lol) she fired up quite quick... just need now to fit the rest of the exhaust and dismantle the wheel hubs to get the driveshafts free to replace the CV boots (inners)

then to get her down to Bartmans to tune the carb and sort the timing

one step forward... two steps back lol

So today despite the weather i plodded on with the mini...

exhaust on, oil topped up, clutch fluid done (and bled), throttle cable adjusted, bled a brake... i know i need to start at the furthest point away but it was too tight against the wall in the garage to get the wheels off. so thats my next job...

but when i took it for a test drive around my estate.. (with half brakes) i assure you all its safer than it sounds my bloody engine steady bolt came loose and released the engine No Steady!! lol clunk clunk clunky....clunk.

i have lost my lights front and rear but i still have indicators... investigation nessasary !!

couldn't get my hub nut off... just wheeled the car up the road or span the wheel... will get a bigger breaker bar this week back from my mates. to split down to put new CV boot inners on

so on the plus its going in and out of gear well through the range and is nice and smooth on the clutch (better than the last engine before i blew it up) and pulling well (considering its not setup timing/carb mix properly)

to do lights, setup of carb, petrol level float (new one in garage hopefully will sort dodgy level indications)  CV boot inners... and possibly work out what needs trimming to let the 12x 6's fit. i have 12x 5's on at the moment i think but prefer he look of the x6's... i think these dimensions are right off the top of my head :?

Any comments encouraged.... it lets me know people are reading ;)

I'd keep the 12X5 just for a reason, the cutting on the wings you need to fit 6"

Its down to personal preferance, I like to keep wing nice and 'original'.

cheers guys... at present it is original apart from the dash... i will strive to get rid of it... but for now its just getting it running sweet again then i can get it back to standard.

as most bits on the car are original... i will keep the 5's...  but i can see already that when the clubman is finished this will be my next project... unless i find a pickup i can justify ;)

so This happened!!

took up a lot of the tail end of last year and until now including Cuba.

But i have been a little busy on the mini. i have written off to the DVLA for a new v5, I've stripped the driveshafts out and rebuilt them with new boots and grease. I've got a rolling road booked for later in the week to set the carb up then all i need to do is work out what wire i chopped out of the loos that lost the headlamps.

I've got 2 HID headlights in the post 2 new indicators (broken during transit) and she desperately needs a clean and polish but then she should be radish for summer... unless she fails the MOT in may lol
