LOL what caused the hole? Ignition timing out or running too lean?

I had the same on my first Mini but the hole was near to the edge. I popped in a second hand piston and used the car as a daily for several years (poor student).

might have been runnoing lean i never set the carb up fully after putting the new needle in, i was waiting to get a colour tune.

block out and rebore followed by de coke rebuild with new pistons is an option,

however ive just found a 1100 metro failed the MOT for bodywork engine still running in it for £150.

i question if option 2 would actually be cheaper...

Today was AWESOME!!!

i spent the whole afternoon cleaning the 1098 block, i removed the flywheel and chutch housing, cleaned all the mating faces, cleaned the majority of the old paint off (enough that theres no flakes) i de coked the top with some scotch bright. i re drilled the water circulation holes that had some corrosion in them that would hinder coolant flowing... and finally after degreasing the whole engine ready for paint at the weekend i put a tsp of engine oil into the cylinder bores and turned her over by hand to keep the cylinders lubed...

ive left the timing chain cover on im not going to mess with the timing! :P im worried enough about making sure the dizzy is in the right place !!

right... so I've ripped the old engine out today. What a POLAVA!!  trying to undo engine mounts that weren't even connected to the subframe ??

I picked up a running 998 but as you can see I've been doing up a 1098.

the loom from the bulkhead forward into the engine bay is fried!! I'm not sure how anything worked at all...

now do i drop in the working 998 the unproven 1098 or leave it out and fix the loom first ??

i would have been picture happy but i left my phone at work :(

Sort your wiring out or you'll be going nowhere.

I know but i did wonder if it would be time effective to do this with the engine out or not really... i need to buy wire to splice in or a new front loom. while i was waiting tomorrow i could have started putting an engine in... ill wait. ill see if i can pick some wire up in the morning :D

Now where did i put my soldering iron ??

Original is 180mm

I'd reccomend a 190mm instead, but if your flywheel has been used with a 180, you need a new flywheel or to get it resurfaced, otherwise it will spin all the time.
