Hi ya Jeff... thanks mate...

I got all the foam from Clark Rubber... they sell the high density foam for the seats and I have used the stuff on my other projects... Spotlight sell vinyl and the thin foam or filler for door trims and the like... I got the panel / board for the door trims from the local hardware so anywhere like bunnings and miter 10 will have all that stuff....

Cheers

Thanks Jared..

Yep... it was fun unpacking the package from Mini Spares... (Thank God for Mini Spares lol..) lots of goodies to put on and you are right... its all the little things that finish it off nicely...

At the end of the day... its not perfect or a show car... but it looks nice and will turn some heads I'm sure.... It will go nicely with my other toy, (the Torana) and am looking forward to take them both out for a cruise with the Mrs.... thats what its all about... getting out and enjoying them...  :P

Cheers

I don't think it matters that it's not perfect, although I think its pretty darn good. It's there for the enjoyment. I like the Torana, let's see it!

Thanks for that Jared...

Well... here she is... 1970 LC Torana... not a GTR or XU1... but... a nice one family car from new.... actually... it was my wifes grand mothers car... I think they will go nice together... I will have to get some pics of the two when the sun comes out...

Do you see any of these over where you are Jared? There are supposed to be toranas, cortinas and GT falcons over your way...... mind you, I guess most have been collected by now... I see lots of them over here in car shows where the owners say they got them from Sth Africa..

Cheers

What a beauty! I don't think we got the Toranas here, but we did get the GT and Cortinas etc. The GT's are being exported quite heavily now to Australia because they were almost the same spec as the GTHO Phase 3. They command huge prices here.

Well... ripped the engine out today and started to strip it down....

engineout_zps8e3ad597.jpg

This was what I was greeted with when I removed the head!! More oil in there than the sump!!! lol...

engine_zps8abd0a38.jpg

I hope to get the pistons out tomorrow and have a look at what these rings are doing.... if there are any in there.... the head exhaust ports were dripping of oil to!!

Well... I got the engine in bits and took the pistons out.... Hmmm.... wasnt expecting to find what I did though.... nothing... found nothing... it all looked ok, fresh,no broken rings, the bore was ok, ring gap was ok so you could imagine how not happy I was feeling.... hohum....

I took the engine down to my engine guy to have a chat with him... told him the story so far... (the same guy that did my head) we looked at it for a while and scratched our heads and upon a close look at the rings, he spotted something!!!

BINGO!!!!  :D  :D  :D This was what he found....

rings2_zpsb04d5fc4.jpg

Im no engine guru and had no idea what he was looking at until he told me.... notice the difference here?

rings1_zps6c636f90.jpg

The muppet who assembled the engine before me overlapped the oil control ring and there was no tension on the rings either side!!! Apparently, they must not overlap but butt up against each other to give the ring the tension to control the oil and be firm in the bore......

Rings_zps42588318.jpg

So... the plan of attack is hone, new rings and bearings and will try again from there.... I cant say I have not learnt anything from this, my first mini.... its all good... heading in the right direction now....

Cheers

great looking car.. the engine is from an 1100s, don't get confused by the name, the morry 1100s had a 1275 engine!

Also the head bolts are reasonably common in Aus. I just got rid of a 1098 with bolts instead of studs.

Tim.

Hi ya Tim.. thanks for that mate...

Yep... I worked out it came from a morris 1100s... I'm not sure if I need to be changing the bolts for studs... I figure it was ok then so cant be that bad now.... anyway, Im sure I'll hear from folks if its an issue.... Thats the least of my worries at the moment... I just want to get it running so I can get it through rego... day by day though....

You have a nice build going on there too mate!!! I'll keep an eye on it to pick up some great tips.... your little beast is looking really sweet Tim...

Cheers

At least you found the problem. This will be a great little car once done.

The bore was re-honed and new rings fitted, new big end, mains and cam bearings... should be a tight, fresh little power plant when done...

Cheers

Giving the carbies a good going over also... should finish them up tomorrow and finish bolting everything back on the engine..
