In putting some miles in as I plan to do a few charity rides. :)
Very rewarding on a personal level, I did my last one as a group of 80, but I didn't know anybody there. You quickly pick up some riding buddies that are at your pace, and even if you don't set off together, you end up meeting at a food stop and riding with them again.
Did a nice 41 mile ride today. Was going well until a guy in the group went down on some ice and ended up with the paramedics..

Picking this 1 up next weekend, needs a few bits and replacement tyres as there too modern!

This 1 is an ultra burner, it was just a frame and forks when I got it, with a seized seat post, I've just refurbished the frame so need to get the rest of the bits to build it up
Before

After

I'm also picking this one up when I pick up the red burner, it's an old iron horse bmx from the early 80's, check out the wheels! Lol

and a couple of falcon pro bmx projects, 1 for me (falcon pro zeta) and a 16" falcon pro frame/forks for my 5yr old daughter

Thread revival! I'm buying my own place soon and it's right near dirt paths n canals so looking at a differant bike to cope with these as well as taking into account that I'm doing manchester ti Leeds in September tio... Beeb looking at a Dawes discovery 101.... What people's views on this? Bike needs to be fairly cheap as every penny will help next month
Thanks
Only going from personal experience working in bike shops, but at that price id look at buying used. However if you are looking to buy new at that price range look at ridgeback bikes and the trek 7 series bikes. If you can stretch to 350 you start to get some real choice :) hope this helps
edit: ^^thats assuming the dirt paths are hardpack?

I have one of these:

Still completely standard. I do have a dropper post ready to go on, but it's the wrong size tube. I might even sell that yet. I was thinking about selling the bike and getting a 29er HT, simply so I could put some semi-slicks on and use it on road and travel quickly. Full sus with 2.2inch wide tyres does not make for fast on road! I don't think I will be doing it though to be honest.

Couple of years ago I did an 1100 mile solo unassisted 12 day lands end to John O'Groats.
I have an old Dawes Giro winter bike and a top of the range KTM carbon, ultegra road bike. Over 20 miles on a training ride it's easily a minute quicker than my training bike. Love it, brilliant bike but very unknown in the UK. When they are reviewed in the press the verdict is always 10/10
