Any one recommend a budget (£300) all weather commuting bike, I'm after one to get to work on , 10mins in car and another place which is 20mins in car
:) Thanks, Craig

For that i would seriously consider looking on ebay for good quality second hand bikes, yes there second hand and may need a cable here and a lube up there but you're buying into something thats worth its weight in gold, the bike of mine i posted on page one i think costs around £500-£600 brand new, i bought it for £150 off of ebay for getting into and around town as busses ect... were too expensive and didn't go were i wanted to so perfect for the job and i,ve just got back from college on it and its never miss a beat, i need a new cable for the front gear change but thats only down to the cable splitting, i bike shop owner told me he didn't want to even know of these cheap argos and tesco type bikes, he turns them away because there just not good enough to be able to set up correctly, and once you do they alter and need adgustment soon after, not his exact words mind so not bothering going into detail.

Atleast with a 2nd hand good manufacturers bike you know parts are available and well made too

I would definitely mirror this, my mates own the local bike shop to me, about a month after Christmas I was in their shop, I had a look out back, there was loads of repairs to be done, probs around 30 bikes and only 2 where what they sell, and they where only in for a service after being brought, all the rest where gal fords bikes, half odds just put a massive mark up on most of their bikes, and really they are not worth buying, it is worth paying a bit more when buying brand new, because you will get the extra money back when selling, the matts Merida bikes are good, you could probs pick a good one up second hand in your price range

In defence of Halfords, I don't know any riders who don't like their Boardman bikes, and I think they are supposed to be selling Pinarello bikes soon.

You can't really go wrong with a decent Giant or Specialized from my experience.

I've used a road bike all year round it's about how comfortable you are at riding it I've been in the muddy lanes ice absolute freezing and wet fallen off twice once ice which was unmissable and mud which was my inexperience otherwise fine for it, get some crud mudguards and continential gp4000 tyres which are fantastic for grip and Swiss stop brake blocks

Will do, really considering the triban 3 as a starter bike, gets some good comments to be honest from a lot :) I'll keep looking on the bay though. :)

I got my boardman team alloy for £500 which is half price and it was a few months old and little use do you have a company that will do a cycle scheme? They are good for breaking the cost down

Gp4000 tyres are sweet, love them. I was riding through the winter last year on 23's and had no problems at all, if you're sensible with corner speed and descents then you'll be fine.

I have more accidents in the dry weather because you get caught out by the 1% of the road that's slippery, but in winter you're in the mindset that everything is dangerous so you're naturally more cautious.

Just think tree cover, temperature, white lines...

Ive a old skool bmx,

ammaco freestyle king, well two actually, both chrome 1 is a mk1 other is a mk2,

one is not quite finished and lives in my office on the wall the other is fully built and lives in the garage it rides about 0000 miles per year.

such a shame, id love to take it to a veteran race meeting.

use to love racing around hexthorpe  bmx track as a kid with my pals, the old track has now been changed into a play park and another larger track built, not as much fun but im sure ill still hold the lap record there.

Riding from London to Paris next year, I did Cornwall to Bristol this year so I am doing that little bit extra. Also for a charity that has directly affected me.
