My temperature gauge just goes steadily all the way up to hot when I turn my ignition on. It goes up even if I haven't been running the engine! I've replaced the thermostat and temperature sender but it still goes up. I have smith gauges if that helps, thanks for your time and I hope you can answer my question, Ellis.

Pull the wire off the sender unit in the head and see if it climbs all the way to hot then, if so its a short to earth to earth somewhere on the wire between sender and gauge,

You haven't said what sort of dash you have so if that does not show the fault list what gauges you have.

Thanks for the reply, yeah it goes straight to hot when the plug is out, I have a twin clock dashboard with just the speedo and temp gauge.

you will have to trace the sender cable then, green and a blue tracer, its probably chaffed on the loom somewhere and shorting out, check around the metal retaining tabs and especially where the loom goes under the slam panel, sometimes the grill retaining screws can foul the loom.
