XTR 80V back in '92.
Blue '79 mini 850. I put a white roof on it, tinted windows, white bonnet stripes, lowered with 6x10s and a sony cd player inside. Engine was standard 850cc except for the piper high lift cam from my race car - that went like a rocket! I remember having a great "drive" against a BMW 3 series one night over the back of Portsdown Hill just outside Portsmouth. He obviously kicked my ass on the straight roads but I stuck to his bumper like the proverbial brown stuff to a blanket in the roundabouts and corners. Remember we got out of our cars at Mick's Monster Burger Bar and just pee'd ourselves laughing for ages!
Loved that car

Engine split and crank sent to Minisport by Red Star parcels (train) for undersize regrind. Resprayed it in Ford Daytona yellow with a black chequered roof using rattle cans (oof! ). Wheel spacers on standard wheels with no trims. Extra spotlamps mounted on bonnet (very shaky!)
Roof lining done in sweatshirt material by my mother, a pot of glue and about a million clothes pegs.
Magic wee car.. It was to be the first of many

My first car was a Ford Anglia with a flip front and built in air intake for £50, at the time I thought it was the dogs b's, until my second car 1965 Cooper s 1275, wow what more can I say.
Now 38 years on still driving a mini, although it does get the old back now and again, but once the bug bites its for life.

A Skoda Octavia. It cost £60 (some years ago). Horrid car, but I loved it.

A 1977 Mini 1000 back in 1993 that I called Huey, bought for £250. It had a "wheelbarrow" style exhaust; it belonged to a guy who worked in an exhaust centre & the standard back box started blowing. They didn't have any Mini systems in stock so he had a look around, found a front pipe for a Flat-4 Subaru, reversed it and put it on the back. Sounded lovely!
I sold it 2 years later for £275 with 1 week's MOT left on it having fitted S discs, reverse rims, GT seats and then watched as the rust ate it alive. I replaced it with a 1330-powered '79 1275GT called Bruce, which I also miss.

1990 Peugeot 309 GTI 5 door in Topaz blue, brilliant car till the motor dropped a piston and got parted out. Only paid $500 for it and it lasted 18 months. Unbelievable levels of grip and precise handling. I do miss that car

A 1993 Citreon ZX 1.9TDi Avantage 5-door. It was the 90bhp version too.
Passed my test 6 weeks after my 17th birthday and my grandad handed me the keys to it. It had ABS but that didnt stop me putting it in a ditch in the rain about a month after getting it. A total write-off.
