I can see why they've kept the front grille that shape (to try and have a touch of the classic) but it just looks wrong, like a big gaping mouth, or maybe it's an expression of surprise, with eyes and mouth wide open,
And the bit at the bottom just looks like an afterthought.
Still, there's plenty of worse looking cars out there.

It looks fine to me.
But it's funny to realise that the new MINI is about the same size as the original Austin MAXI. How times change.

what a pig of a car... sorry but the BINI becomes further removed from the original concept with every generation... this is just the BMW 1/2 series with some kitsch throwback details chucked in to the mix. I wouldn't mind were it not for their continued reliance upon original Mini styling cues and history... for example it's being launched on Issigonis' birthday. I'd rather no Mini than this... rant concluded haha

The Maxi was a much derided car which was quite ground-braking in its way.
It had a 5-speed gearbox, an OHC engine (when BMC had relied on the A- & B-Series engines for so long), it was one of the first true hatchbacks and, as said, had fully reclining seats when they were rare.
The original was let down by the cable-operated gear shift linkage, but when that was sorted it became a very capable mid-sized car.
Like so much of what BMC did, it could have been a great car if a bit more pre-launch development had been done.

They really have ruined this car now.
The original design (2001-2006?) was actually very good looking and had touches of the classic. This just looks hideous, and don't get me started on the 'Clubman' or 'Countryman'.
BMW seem to make it look worse and worse with each generation.
