Nice find... '206 head is in more common parlance a '295. I would suspect that an engine of that age unless already done will be very worn - so first off I'd tear it down and have a look at what's what and go from there. You'll also have (I think) a remote type gearchange to contend with rather than a rod change - a few different mountings aside no great issue - but if you're starting with a rod change mini then the tunnel will have to be modified to suit.. If not used in a mini before then it'll also probably have an unsuitable FD in it too....

1098's are a nice tractable engine  - although it's fast approaching 30 years since I had one (in a clubby estate) so memory fades somewhat... they don't like revving too much though... personally I'd pinch the head and build up a high compression A+  998 ...(for daily driving the head will need an UL conversion - that's a different debate!)

Yes I've had the head off and the bores don't look too bad but I will strip down fully and look at everything. Yes the box on it is a remote type I don't have the remote shaft thing to go with it unfortunately so I'll have to find one I've read a lot about 1100s I know they are only really any good for torque values and not for high revving. I'm wanting to use the 1100 as its something different from just a tuning a 998 or sticking in a 1275

The 1100 is good for usable torque but don't like to rev and usewd versions tend to burn oil.

I like a well set up 1100 personally.

Check the diff ratio too.

I have a remote change from an ADO 1100 or 1300 if you need one. They are different to the earlier mini ones.

If you currently run a rod change box and it's good, why not pop the 1098 onto that? Saves chopping the floor or bodging a mount. It will also leave your speedo reading correctly.

The 1098 engine is a long stroke so they don't rev like a 998, but they can be made to produce some useful torque. I believe you should have the AEA630 cam, which was also used in the 998 Cooper.
