I can't believe that firmer action has not already been taken. Are you afraid of the guy?

Unless you act you might as well consider the car a write off and just leave it and move on.

Either that, or as SS really wanted to say (I think), "grow some balls", go there with a friend or two, and re-possess it straight away.

PLminis are not far from sheffield. Prices might not be cheap, but they can sort the problem for you.

FABMOC mini club also if you need advice/help locally.

Yes I did  :highfive:  But my "delicate lady like manner" got in the way....

But of course, 'SS' ;D. You are absolutely right though. If someone like that did that to me or my family, a 'visit' with trailer, ropes and 'big friends' (my nephew is an ex-Para who runs a security transport business which helps) would certainly have happened a long time ago.

This guy is taking the piss, but as far as I can work out, you're not doing anything about it.

I don't think you need it repeated again, but just get it out of there - it's only going to get worse the longer you leave it in there. This should be your wakeup call to remove it from there and report them!

Get it out before it becomes more than just a mechanical repair...

Personally, I like to have a car with me for a week when doing the gearbox, mainly because I recondition your gearbox rather than putting an exchange unit back on the bottom.

I was starting to think the same HarrysMini. Even when my cars been in a really busy garage, they have still managed not only to give me a rough time frame but to do something on it within the week.

Let's face it, what is this joker garage going to do when you turn up to claim your mini back? Its not like he can refuse is it? if you are not happy, you are more than entitled to take it away whether that's with flatbed or pushing the blooming thing. He can't really do anything. I would go and TELL (not ask) him that you want it back, its going to a garage who can start work immediately. The really sad thing about this whole thing is that there is many garages out there would could of had this work done many times over and you could of been back with your mini by now, but you are now leaving it with this hack, watching it rust, get damaged, abused, waterlogged, and god only knows what other things have gone wrong, broken or now need repair and its continuing to snowball.. and still you are without your car and if you continue to 'hope' that he may just pull his finger out and start work on it (which, let's face it...more chance of seeing a pig on a pogo stick) You are going to end up with no car at all if you don't do anything because it will need very extensive repair but that's only if the rust hasn't spread and eaten your mini..plus I dread to think what the waterlogged foot wells have turned in to and doing, I can only imagine your mini is a "mini" swimming pool. If this guy told the truth, he doesn't know minis or like to work on them, and leaving the doors open and electrics exposed, bonnet open etc, its like he wants someone to nick it or parts of it, or vandalise it. Like Cooperman said, if you don't get it soon, you miles well consider it a write off and leave it.

Hi all, thanks again for the responses.

I have taken it back and to another garage in the village, however after getting it they said that they didn't have engine lifting gear (id have thought this pretty basic kit) and so he had taken it back down to the other guy and told him to get a shift on (this was 2 or 3 weeks ago now).

I have been going up once or twice a week (normally Fridays and Tuesdays) since boxing day, normally i try and stay calm and reasonable, but i got a little annoyed last time i went up there (last Friday). Laid down that the car needs doing NOW, pointed out the new rust on the door bottom and front seams, pointed out the small swimming pools, and dirty seats and mentioned it had been left unlocked. Plus stressed that it has been annoyingly long time. He has said sorry (shocker!) and said he has only just got the gearbox back from the re-builders and is now waiting on a new oil pump - ordered yesterday - Monday - so to expect it back Thursday/Friday so long as nothing else comes up - issues on my car.

Slowly but surely getting there, once its back with me it needs its service and MOT which it will go to the Mini specialists I normally take it too in Sheffield. Normally it would have gone to this specialist - very nice guys, quite quick, good work - but I didn't know the address to tell the RAC guy and originally I thought it was just a small CV joint issue - easy, even i could do that but don't have the time - I work long and unusual hours, not a new box. When it does finally get done ill have the specialist have a look and tell me if anything mechanical is a miss with it (it was perfect before going in) and get him to write it down and sign it, then present this and the cost to put it right to this joker and let him sort it - my normal specialists im sure will gladly help with any problems.

I will post up pictures and name and shame once my car is back, but he is just a local garage out in the countryside in a small village I live in, pretty unlikely you will ever have the misfortune of dealing with him.

As has been said on here many times by many people, if you are going to run a classic car such as a Mini you really do need to be able to do most of the jobs yourself (or have a lot of spare cash). Minis are very straightforward old-technology and are not complicated at all. Just get a good tool kit, some axle stands, a few special tools, or, alternatively, a more modern car ;D.

hahahaha yea, normally I would and have tackled most jobs, just anything where the engine has to come out, and servicing that I wont do myself, but with this I just needed it doing fast and at the time I was working 45+ hours a week so wouldn't have time :P so I had the garage do it (ironic really XD )

BOB IS BACK! bob my mini came home today. its raining so I cant tell too much, but he has washed it and given it a quick polish up so doesn't look too bad, the gearbox feels amazing! A few issues, 1) running rough, 2) flatspots in the revrange - low ish, 3) splutters, holds back then backfires at 1,800 revs in 3rd and 4th, 4) squidgy floor - rust? hopefully the engine issues will sort them selves out or I can persuade them to with some tlc. Bill was a little high, near as makes no difference 2 grand :/ but not a lot I can do I guess, he has itemised it all, the big bits are 850 for labour and 500 for reconed box. He has said I should put the original wheels back on as it will strain the box having 13X7s on a car designed for 12X6s, hope this is a load of rubbish as I love my new wheels! ill re-update with some more info after ive driven it properly tomorrow, done about 5 miles today in the wet, tomorrow I have a 70 mile round trip, so ill find out how he really is feeling then.
As for what garage it is, there are two garages in bradwell and they work together on it, I wont say more as believe it or not my dad has just said he will still be sending his cars there  :ohno: :mmkay:  mine wont go back there again and I hope to never have anymore to do with them.
Important thing is he is home :)
