BOB IS BACK! bob my mini came home today. its raining so I cant tell too much, but he has washed it and given it a quick polish up so doesn't look too bad, the gearbox feels amazing! A few issues, 1) running rough, 2) flatspots in the revrange - low ish, 3) splutters, holds back then backfires at 1,800 revs in 3rd and 4th, 4) squidgy floor - rust? hopefully the engine issues will sort them selves out or I can persuade them to with some tlc. Bill was a little high, near as makes no difference 2 grand :/ but not a lot I can do I guess, he has itemised it all, the big bits are 850 for labour and 500 for reconed box. He has said I should put the original wheels back on as it will strain the box having 13X7s on a car designed for 12X6s, hope this is a load of rubbish as I love my new wheels! ill re-update with some more info after ive driven it properly tomorrow, done about 5 miles today in the wet, tomorrow I have a 70 mile round trip, so ill find out how he really is feeling then.
As for what garage it is, there are two garages in bradwell and they work together on it, I wont say more as believe it or not my dad has just said he will still be sending his cars there  :ohno: :mmkay:  mine wont go back there again and I hope to never have anymore to do with them.
Important thing is he is home :)

don't pay for labour they did none it took forever for you to get Bob back :P I will have to come and have a look at him sometime next week xD

2 grand, 3 months and it's running rough. Sounds like you were taken for a ride buddy...

Have to agree with that, I would not be paying 2k considering the way they treated your money, if it had come back in absolute pristine condition then maybe but it clearly hasn't and they could have done more damage just leaving it abandoned basically outside.

That's a load of horse poo from the start, the 13x7 wheel tyre combination is actually smaller in overall diameter than the stock 12" with 145 tyres because of the low profile tyres... Yes it work your wheel bearing a little harder but will not impact the gearbox...

That is extortionate! I would pay him the £500 for the gearbox and tell him to stick the rest. What he has done to your car is beyond mentionable and you may well need that £2k (he should give you 2k more like) to fix the damage he has caused due to his negligence. Rust, water in footwells etc. Dirty parts on your seat, doors unlocked...now you have it back, its running rough, a buggered floor, maybe even some electrical problems may be starting to arise probably due to him leaving them exposed. I dread to think all the other bits that you may find or notice over time....come on, wake up and smell the robbery!

The balls in your court now - you've got the Mini and you've got the money. Won't do him any harm to sweat a bit.

Make a list of the damage and unfinished tasks (eg. damaged seats, poor running) get a quote for putting it right by a professional on paper and deduct from his bill.

He will probably threaten to take you to court etc but that will be all it is - a threat.

Make him sweat - bounce him around a bit - have some fun.

Sadly I am presuming the OP has paid the bill.
Garages don't let cars off their premises unless the bill is paid normally (law of lien) and if you take it without paying it can be deemed theft. Which is how crap garages continue.....

Bloody hell! This sounds like a horror! Taking the engine out isn't that a big job on a mini to be honest. I reckon I could take one out in about 2 hours without any major dramas!

Have you paid the guy yet?

Well in that case then I seriously hope that he doesn't pay the full asking price. If it was me I'd only cough up for the box after I had a mini specialist check it out to see if it is actually a reconditioned box. Going by what the OP says, I wouldn't trust the garage as far as I could spit.

So you've paid £1500 in parts? What did they replace? As stated earlier, it's perhaps ten hours labour, and they didn't even do the job properly. Setting up a carb and ignition timing is part of the job of removing and refitting an engine!
