Hi, before I have to get under the dash, what do you think the problem may be. The fan works fine on the second speed, but not at all on the single speed. Is this a case of, if the wire has not fallen of the back of the switch, then it must be the motor ?

I would check the switch first. The motor isn't a two speed motor, there is a resistor on the side of the case near the back. Perhaps the resistor has failed, or a wire has come off.

there is a little resistor wire in the heater under the cover. they often break over time. cut it out and fit a resistor in its place. i used this type.

Mine has this issue, but works great when I ram my fingers into the back of the switch, wiggle them about a bit. This is a very technical procedure, do stop me if I get a little too in depth.
