I need as much advice as possible on what everyone's opinion of the best supercharger on the market is and where people recommend getting one from.

I have a 1380 race engine looking to supercharge simply for more power and whining sound.

Cheers

Eaton M45 I believe is what most people use. It's a very good unit, we have one on the MINI Cooper S

The Eaton M45 beacame popular due to them being ripped out of Binis during the JCW upgrade process.

They are NOT designed to have liquid go through them, and use in a suck-through setup will see them degrade and eventually lose the rotor coatings.
Fine in the more complicated blow-through setup though.

best chargers are lysholm bassed units, ie sprintex, they put much less heat into the air as they compress it.

I asked a question about this and minispeed said that the ones in their kits don't have this coating and are therefore ok to use on a suck through setup.

I got one from a MINI Cooper S that had been written off, not very expensive either.

As soon as I'm older and can afford the insurance I'm going to fit it to the Mini.

Funny how Eaton themselves say that the M-series of 'chargers are dry air pumps.
Liquid is incompressible, and the rotors run so close to each other that they WILL get damaged.

I've got one in the garage with knackered rotors.

(And that was the purchased that proved to me that feeBay and PayPal are just a bunch of crooks, bit like the bloke who sold it to me...)

You may want to do a bit more research on supercharging a 1380.

1380 with forced induction is a recipe for a lot of blow by, where the thinned walls of the cylinders flex, making the ring pack less efficient. You will increase your rate of oil fouling, increase your bore wear and probably not get the power you expect.

Forced induction on a less overbored block will yield more of what you want, and less of what you don't. 1293 or 1310 would be better candidates.

edit: Also this is a very expensive way to get a whining sound. Get a set of straight cut drops. That will give you all the shrieking whine you could want...

The M45 is a pretty inefficient unit, as mentioned above there are far better ones out there. The M45 is only popular really due to its availability & cheapness.

Phil.

The difference is the cost of the sprintex which is massive compaired to the regular choice

But no extra power, so pointless.

A couple of other things, my sc12 blower hasn't had any coating issues and it's been on since 2007.

There is a guy in aus that does a sprintex kit, as well as my sc12 kit.
