Well 2 days after ordering, my tracker has arrive. So easy to install. Had a play and had pin pointed my car to within 10 yards everytime. Hopefully i wont have to use it for real.

I'd never buy one. Any thief that knows what they are doing will use a signal jammer, which you can get for £25. They'll switch it on before breaking into the car and leave it on for a few days until they find your tracker or the tracker battery runs flat. If you want o stop a thief, fit manual deterants! I have x3 on mine, all of them heavy metal beasts that would take half an hour to remove with a metal grinder. And if it's parked, make sure it's nose-in on full lock. It they lift the rear wheels, they'll have issues pulling it away.

I have got visual deterant on my car, and i always put nose-in with full lock. But at least by fitting this GPS locator i have a chance of locating my car if the unfortunate happens and not just have to rely on the police spotting it.

That is making the assumption that the thief has a jammer.  For the sake of a few quid it's got to be worth it.  Adding visible mechanical deterrents is a good idea as well, but the more that is done to stop the thief the better surely?

I don't think that the people risking their freedom to steel cars, would increase the risk of getting caught by not spending £25 on a jammer. Mini's are stolen for parts, or to be reshelled/ringed, and the guys doing that will most definitely have a jammer.

Maybe we should throw it out to the forum members;

Who knows someone that has their mini recovered from being Stolen due to having a tracker fitted?......

Just like to add that Minivation also sell a tracker with a built in alarm -

So not only can you track said mini if it goes missing - but you also have a deterrent!

It can be linked up to bonnet/ boot and is hooked up to internal light so will be activated when doors are opened!

Again I would say anyone who want more info to contact Minivation themselves as they are super helpful - quite surprised they're not on the forum!

I don't work for them but I did a lot of research into alarms before I chose mine from Minivation.

Mine is wired in but not set up yet and build not complete!

I think this is a very good question. I would also be interested to hear of anyone getting their mini back as a result of a tracker being fitted. THAT would be an excellent incentive to get one.

I have a tracker fitted to my mini's.

I work for a plant hire company & we have had machines returned because they are fitted. We also have machines disappear never to be seen again & they had a tracker. So sometimes it works & sometimes it makes no difference.

My tracker is now fitted and i've set the GEO ring fence just around the garage and garden.  Tested it a couple of times and as soon as the car is driven off the tracker texts me to let me know and tells me where it is.  Quite impressed so far, but hopefully won't have to use it for real!  This isn't the only security device I've got, I've also got an immobiliser and alarm, but everything has got to help...

Is the alarm version of MiniTracker one that is rated by the Insurance companies?
