Please explain, with reference to the wiring diagram of any model variant of your choosing, how ONE fuse in the Mini can cause loss of BOTH main beams.

I don't expect an answer any time soon....

Because this crops up so often I have done the circuit diagram here http://www.theminifo...x/#entry3003421

showing the feeds in/out to the lights on the lighting circuit which shows the feed into the headlight switch is fed from the brown wire on the solenoid and not fused. Where as the later cars had a 24 fuse box and the lights were fused by seperate left and right circuits

You are so funny and you don't even know it.
Try not to burst a blood vessel.

And yes I can read, especially when you put up angry block capitals up. Makes it nice and clear for me, thanks.

I'm sure we have all been there when sorting out an electrical problem, we have rectified it in a way that didn't make sense( it shouldn't work, but it does. Type of thing ) :-)

Interesting topic. I have a similar problem with my mini at the moment. Dipped beams are not working but headlights are. When I switch to main beams (3rd position on the switch) I only get the side lights (same as 2nd position). Could be a faulty switch I suppose but replaced it only a year ago. I do plan on checking through the wiring, but all thoughts welcome.

Thanks,

Gavin

Check the feed out from the switch on the Blue/white wire, and follow it through, that way you can see if its the switch at fault Gavin

Do they work when you flash them?

Flash would confirm the wiring outward is ok, then look at the switch

Many thanks guys. Flash seems to be working fine. Have ordered a new switch and will let you know the outcome!

Cheers,

Gavin

You might be able to repair the switch

Mind your its a art stripping the switch for the first time, just take time and release the screws holding the switch to the front plate between thumb and fingers, carefully let it open being aware of the springs.transfer plate and nylon indents.

Just to keep you guys up to date, Its not the switch. I think it may actually be the stick on the steering column, so will have a look at that.

Cheers,

Gavin
