if you see a BINI driver in a car park ask then how long it took them to restore it, can you still get parts for it,is it tax exempt etc.
The R56 D is tax exempt, as is the Cooper in the new F56. Yes, you can still get parts for it, lots of parts including mods for it as well as serviceable items. As for restoring it, us MINI drivers are fortunate that they don't rust like the Mini........

What is the difference between R50 and R53?
R53 is the S (supercharged version)
'Minisport' also have a good explanation of all the MINI R numbers on their new MINI website, see link below:
MINI R Numbers
All MINI models have R-series model numbers assigned to them. These are a legacy of the Mini's original development within Rover Group.

I have noticed that Bini-bashing on this forum has generally been on the decline. It has always been banned but curiously a few of the most vocal Bini-bashers here are TMF Team members.
I would have loved for the Mini to continue forever but that was never going to happen under current regulations. I am glad the name, the image and much of the original concept live on even though these have had to adapt to the 21st century.
BMW’s lawyers may have been over zealous in the early days but I have frequently found that some lawyers can lose sight of their clients’ interests.
BMW are now enthusiastically embracing the heritage as is clear from their recent advertising
It is not true that the MINI is no different from a Mondeo. The MINI continues the ideas and configuration devised by Sir Alec Issigonis including the transverse engine driven front wheels. The MINI may just be the same as any other modern hatchback in this respect but only because the others have copied the idea. Only the MINI can claim the true heritage.
I do not believe MINI owners are indifferent to the Mini. Everyone recognises and loves the Mini. It’s the coolness of the image, which Frank Stephenson took great care to update, which appeals to most buyers. John Cooper’s support and influence meant the MINI carried through much of the driving experience.
I spent over two months in the USA last year and it gave me a great sense of pride to see so many British-made MINIs on the roads.
I think the worst thing a Mini owner can do is be rude to a MINI owner. It will only damage the respect Mini owners are entitled to have.
To answer the OP, I would encourage waving at Minis when driving your MINI but I think the L2B plaque would not be the best indicator of Mini ownership as MINIs also participate in the run. I am sure if you had some obvious Mini symbol visible it might be appreciated by all but the most MINI resistant.
You could always have a sticker saying, “My other car is a proper Mini”.

When I'm in a MINI I'm going to wave at old minis just because I can. And if they don't wave back or give me a dirty look. I'll give them the finger
miserable gits

Did you get her number? My other car is a proper mini, I like them both, a lot.
I saw a girl in a tidy 51 plate R50 yesterday when in my city e, she gave me a big smile and I could tell she liked a proper mini, she clearly looked after hers and no doubt added some of the fancy bits it had, it was no different to seeing another mini really.

Ok in the spirit of mini inclusiveness I waved at a bini this morning while driving to work in my mini.
The response I got was a look that could only have meant one thing... "who the f*** are you and why are you waving at me?"

And that is also what would have happened if I had waved at a classic Mini in the 1960's or 70's when I can remember Mini's were just as common as MINI's are now on every UK street....due to their sales success.......you really need to wait for a MINI to wave at you first or be at or near a Mini show / on a run lke L to B where the owner obviously understands why you are waving.

if a MINI waved at me then I would wave back, but after about two years of daily driving I haven't yet been waved at by one! or even acknowledged as far as I can tell. I don't think the average MINI driver knows/cares/see's the connection. pretty much in the same way that some mini drivers don't see/care a connection with the MINI.
