Hello, i got my classic 1990 mini mayfair for my 17th birthday as my first car.

When we drove it around no problems however, originally we though the radio was draining the battery so we stopped using it.

A couple of days ago it was really foggy so i turned on my headlights and almost instantly i noticed my wipers getting slow and my indicators showing either a solid or extremely slow blink.

After sitting in a car park for 5-10 mins with some revs with the lights knocked out everything turned back to normal. At the moment I'm not going out after around 7PM so its always light but it is as soon as i put on my headlights my battery goes. I'd real like to be able to use basic things like my radio without it going dead. So far i know the alternator is working as it did charge my battery back up.

Could anyone please help me out - cheers

Have you checked what voltage the at the battery? with the engine turned off you should be getting around 12v (i think) then when you turn your engine on it should go up to 13v to 14v and rev it to 2000rpm. then switch everything on and it should stay around 13v. the alternator may recharge the battery but just enough to keep it charged to start it and keep it running with no lights etc.
