Hi I'm looking to swap out my current alternator but I would like to know what type of alternator I have currently - it's from a mini Mayfair 1990
I have attached a photo below of the alternator if it is of any use

Interested in this as there are modern alternators that do exactly the same and weigh a third the OEM. (Recall Hitachi being mentioned)

So what type of alternator is this? - I have no clue

All I can tell from the picture is that if you Google for the VR-LC111 number shown it identifies the voltage regulator used and suggests that it is a Lucas part.  Perhaps a bigger picture of the alternator showing its overall size and appearance would help more than the printed numbers.

That's a lucas A127 alternator. Why do you want to replace it?

This alternator isn't charging the battery but extremely slowly, every four weeks or so I need to take the battery out to charge it right - getting a bigger battery and a new alternator - believe it's the alternator because when I rev my lights stay the same sort of brightness

Is their anyway of finding out the amps this alternator has?

70A - why not just rebuild it?

It may not be the alternator, it may be just the connections. You need to do some tests to find out what is going on. Measure the voltage at the battery and the alternator with the engine running at 3krpm and the headlamps,heated rear screen and heater blower running. Post back the figures. You must have a fully charged battery for this test.
