I thought i saw in one of the shots of the shell as stripped and the rh inner sills you could see daylight..and how did they establish it was a Downton engine.
Also the reg number was weird, I assume the I was really an L.
Great car and a really entertaining program.
Well done Ch5

It was Channel 4 ;-)

I saw some pics of the car after it was shot blasted, it was rotten underneath! big holes in the floors and boot, lots of old repair patches. The rear subframe mounts on the heal board were also very wonky. The programme made it look liked they just sanded it down and painted it ;)

Did anyone else notice the wonkiness of the suspension? The rear was definitely too low to be on new cones, which is what the front looked like it had, and I'm sure the front end was a bit wonky side to side as well.

Good program through, I enjoyed it!

There was virtually no clearance on the rear wheel arches. Something wasn't right about it.

The car and engine never saw Downton in it's life according to the Mk1 forum 'experts' but thats made up TV stories for you to add extra interest......I liked the way they put the wonky rear badges back on !

The I in the reg number was probably because the Mini was stored in a barn in Ireland where they used 'I' on no. plates.

What was going on with that suspension, lacking attention to detail?  The headlining looked a bit rippled as well.

But yes overall a good programme though, nice to see Brian Slark briefly talking about Downton, would have been good if he did the engine build.

The lady owner of the Mk1 he took up snake pass, anxious or what, fancy taking it out in all that rain.

perhaps I can be a bit pedantic but it had the incorrect front panel as the number plate brackets were too wide, not sure about if it should have been full skirt as I think that change happened in 1964, it also had incorrect door handles as the safety boss wasn't added until 1966, program was generally entertaining though

These shows generally have some inaccuracies in the name of art - but I think that this show was better than most. I enjoyed it. Now what you need to know is that, even though I'm retired, I don't watch daytime television. O_O .  But, whilst at the gym this morning there was a bit of a follow up on a daytime show on one of the TV's. Quentin Wilson was singing the praises of the marque. All this exposure? A selling price of £24,780? This time next year we'll all be millionaires.

Can't we all just be happy there was a TV programme about Minis on, instead of trying to pick holes in it and trying to find the tiniest things wrong with it?

That's the best excuse I've heard for admitting to watching daytime television!

Speedy, our Mk1 appeared on For The Love Of Cars and was also on today's This Morning programme - http://www.itv.com/t...quentin-willson

Seconded! Considering the huge number of people interested in old cars there's usually precious little on the subject on tv. Even Classic Car Rescue is better than nothing - just!

I think like other people you are failing to grasp the concept that they were just trying to make it like it was when the old lady hung her driving gloves up, I'm sure they wouldn't have kept the number plate on the bonnet etc if they were studying factory pictures, I think they wanted to give it a bit of personality yet also be tidy and sorted too, which IMO they achieved. The vintage car scene is well ahead in this regard with period badges and stickers etc carefully kept as is, all the equivalent tat of todays halfords junk now add value!
