This will sound daft to many, but I'm new to minis. Is it acceptable to buy cooper gear to fit to a non Cooper car. I.e mine is a Sprite, not a cooper.

Well, people have always modified minis, and this was precisely the point of the introduction of the Cooper Conversion kits in the late 80s - many were used on the then new Flame, Racing & Checkmate models (which looked a bit like 60s Coopers) to improve performance, and it was the success of this that led to the reintroduction of the Cooper as a model in it's own right. So, if you like the Cooper vibe, go for it with the Sprite! :)

Not daft at all. The original 1275 kit, MCC 1275ND, was designed for RSP and Mainstream Coopers (1990-91). Then Coopers developed a version for non-Cooper 1275 carb Minis from 1992 on, MCC 1275 SPP. It consisted of a new cylinder head, exhaust system, K&N filters and a replacement carburettor needle. Power was boosted to 68 bhp. Cooper also did a separate 3.44:1 final drive kit, which had been included as standard in the conversion kits for Coopers. The limiting feature on non-Cooper 1275 minis was the camshaft.

There was never an alternative kit for non-Cooper injection models and I think advice would be needed but again the idea of using a Cooper conversion kit in a non-Cooper is perfectly acceptable.

As far as the other accessories are concerned there is no good reason why you should not fit them.

this is slightly less cheesy than the paddy hopkirk stuff minisport is selling...

At least they are offering some performance parts.. but I disagree with sticking the Cooper logo on random bits to make a sale.

Very clever of Minisport to secure both Paddy Hopkirk and John Cooper's range of branded parts and accessories as part of their marketing strategy.

I guess Minispares will need to do the same with perhaps something like 'Downton' and/or 'Richard Longman' branding for instance?

Does this mean that Minisport actually make the parts or are they just sold trough Minisport?

I'd love the kit for my MPI. Hopefully it'll be made for years as I can't afford it now.

JC's parts were always dear. The brand used to sell. I think 7 years is too long to wait to relaunch and I cannot believe the Mike Raven kits sold very well.
I am surprised there is no fitted price as this would top up the earnings of Minisport.

I've mailed them for a fitted cost for the SPI kit for my Mayfair. No answer yet.

I have a quote today for the mini sport one, which is basically the same as the Cooper one in terms of parts and labour. It's £255 ex vat for fitment for that kit.

Not all of the original kit had a good reputation, the 1.5 rockers were occasionally suspect and a lot of the original JKD fitted 5 speed gear boxes are now in bits.....but I do think its good to see. Whether its worth the premium is up to individuals to decide but I'm glad to see them back and the brand having a future in the classic marque

I thought it sounded a cool idea, until I heard the word 'mini sport', no way on earth I'd pay that much for what would be their stuff with the cooper name.

No idea but its certainly been the much debated over the years. The last rolling road of our works by a previous owner fell quite a bit short but there are lots of reasons why that could have been and I guess for any new owner there are always lots of variables whether you would hit the 90.

Don't know if anyone has bothered to notice but...

Both the injection kits will fail the current MOT.... as the CAT is missing....

Little bit of a ooopsie on their behalf...
