What on Earth is going on with the price of Mini parts these days?

As an example:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/201139907726

Then there's these, exactly the same thing:

http://www.ebay.co.u...=item486bf348c8

That's one of just thousands of examples of people putting stuff up for a ridiculous price and people paying for it.  Are there really that many noobies on the scene that people can literally charge whatever they want for every day tat?

Who on Earth pays £105 for a pair of rear windows?  Is it just because someone saw that it said "Cooper Spec" in the advert?

I do wonder that, but the problem is that people see these things that have "sold" for that price, then think their old windows must be worth the same.

Looking at the Facebook For Sale groups there are, some of the prices people are asking is just ludicrous.  There was a "full leather" set of badly retrimmed leather seats on there the other day and the guy was asking £600 for them.

It just beggars belief what's happening on this scene at the moment.

There was a "1972 Mk3" for sale the other day (which did look really tidy), but was a reshelled and painted 1990s shell (MPI) with a big end knock and the guy was asking £7000.

I know I'm ranting, but this is just getting ridiculous.  If there's one thing that's going to ruin the scene and keep the cars from being kept on the road, it's the extortionate pricing of readily available second hand parts!

The only way to get the prices lowered is if people dont pay silly prices.

Or I could get my lower dash radio holder out from the garage and sell it. Its from my cooper, so Cooper spec. Must be worth a mint :)

I'm afraid it's time to make a stand.

I'm trolling in the Facebook groups now.  The amount of things that get advertised at 2 or 3 times their value is just getting daft.

As long as there are Muppets ™ out there that are daft enough to pay these prices though, they'll still sell!

Another example, a black 1986 Mayfair was advertise the other day.  It looked tidy, paint looked good, but it had no MOT and was advertised at £4000!  £4k for a Mayfair with no MOT?

I wonder if the seller of the second lot for £6 is aware that sending glass with myhermes is not allowed and therefore not covered by their insurance.

I can't see why anybody would pay over £100 for a pair of quarter windows  :withstupid:

Last year someone had a badly refurbished set of Mini25 hubcaps on eBay and had a BIN price of £140.

I paid £6 for my set and there are loads out there, you just have to keep your eyes open.

Thing is someone probably bought those for that money assuming that because the price is high and the seller says they are impossible to find that it must be true.

I agree to a certain extent, the price of parts has got silly, along with the price of cars...

However, I don't believe you can blame the seller for the prices. Like I use to do, all the auctions start off @ 99p and then left to run, then it's the bidders which bump the price... I found one week something would sell for 99p, and the next £20-30, I even had someone from Japan pay over £40 for one of those bars which hold the seat down until you 'pull' the knob on the side...

IMO, the best place to get spares is from someone you know, or from autojumbles, or stick a wanted ad' up

Could this eventually have the knock on effect of insurance companies being more likely to write the car off in an accident instead of paying for a repair?

eBay is probably the worst place to buy Mini parts really, you only have to compare the price of a 1275 engine on eBay (£600-£1k) to the price at an auto jumble (£100-£400)

There was one particular trade stand at IMM that caught my eye.

They had loads of plastic boxes laid out on the ground, each filled with used bits and pieces. There was some really good stuff there and the sign said Every item £1 each! Bargain.

I only wish i hadn't left my wallet in the car. although i didn't have much money in it, there were some bits that caught my eye that i would have bought.
