One thing that is making me think it has't 'run away' is the fact that it has old thick black oil in it filled to the MAX line. Surely if it had run away, it would have fresh oil in it.

Besides that, i have had it running for around an hour in total and it hasn't used a drop of oil.

I am so confused.

A chap on the Renault forum says that the turbo would have been in much worse shape if it had run away

any thoughts?

also Would it not have just run away again when the oil was refilled? unless a different old but functioning turbo had been fitted in place of the original?

I doubt the turbo has been out recently, all of the bolts were very tight and fairly seized.

I have no reason to think it's been changed.

This is what is making me think its something else.

If it had run away, 99% change the engine would have siezed. Its quite hard to stop a runaway........ Perhaps the 1 cyl that is mis

firing has fudged piston rings and that is letting oil into the combustion chamber.

Was that injector oily?

Have you cracked that injector to see if fuel is being delivered?

Does it run on all 4 using ether?

Just thinking out loud.

The old injector that i removed was dry and rusty on the end

This is it.

The one i replaced it with was from another engine that was running perfectly. If i crack the fuel pipe with it running, fuel sprays out at the union.

Not too sure what you mean by Does it run on all 4 using ether?

Cheers

Ben

Swapping the injectors makes no difference, and it doesn't run any different if you unplug it, but it does if you unplug others from what I can gather

Correct Carl.

If i unplug the injector i replaced (the end nearest the timing belt) it runs no different to what it does connected. However, if i unplug any of the other 3 it barely runs and only for a few seconds before stalling

Can you compression test a diesel?

I ask purely for my own knowledge...Its a whole new world to me and I've been watching this from the start to see the outcome

I bought a misfiring 1.6 2003 zafira with 148k on the clock

The guy selling suspected a sticky valve

We got in touch with the previous owner and he said it was a great car and he was on the motorway alot for work

Did an oil flush...changed coilpack...full service..compression test had good results

Changed injector wiring loom which moved the misfire and found that unplugging the injector on the misfiring cylinder did nothing

Got a spare from a scrappy...fitted injector and still have the car now...156k roughly on clock

Just thought I'd share that lol

And I hope you get to the bottom of this...

Cheers, Perhaps i need to do some more digging with the rest of the wiring.

I am going to try ELM327 diagnostic on it just to make sure before it get broken up. If it's something electrical then happy days.

I'm just not convinced it will be as simple as that but would be over the moon to be proved wrong.

You can compression test a diesel, but not using the gunson type gauges etc. The compression is alot higher so requires a specialist tool.

Does this have leak off pipes on the injectors? You could do a leak off test and see whats going on across the 4 injectors.

You can fashion your own kit if you have the time / skills

when i first fitted the new injector, I didn't have it seated properly and when i started it up it was puffing round the base.

Surely that must mean there is compression??
