Dose anyone know / can recommend a way of working out the RPM when setting the ignition timing on an engine? I don't have a rev counter.....

I was wondering if its worth getting a timing light with that feature built in?

Thanks

No real easy way to tell what the rpm is without some sort of tacho, some experienced folk can tell and likewise with the timing. As a beginner myself I would recommend getting one I did and it made the job relatively simple. I bought the Accuspark one with the tacho built it works well setting the timing but the tacho is awful. In the end I used a calibrated digital one from work used for checking the speed of compressors. You can buy similar items on EBay for less than a tenner they come supplied with a roll of reflective tape, you put/stick a small piece on the crankshaft pulley aim the tacho at the tape and press the button and away you go the digital readout tells you the rpm.
