8,5!!
4,5 and it's waving a white flag.
90? I take it, that is km/h? I see you're in the UK, surely it's not 90mph? Convert that to km/h and you get 144!! I only get that on eurotunnel!haha mine sounds angry at anything about 90 and thats a 1275, only additional extra is k&n air filter.
No that's mph. 90 is the max without her sounding like she's gonna fall to pieces
My 35 was standard bar a K&N and the most I did is 90Mph - I felt like a skipping stone on water with a pissed off sounding mini.

In the 'S' I've had 7000 rpm in 4th which is around 100 mph. I've had 6700 rpm in top on a gravel forest road which is about 94 mph. Now, that was exciting. I have a 3.9:1 FDR by the way.
As a guide, the original 850 with 34 bhp would top out at c.72 mph which was about 5100 rpm. The 998 Cooper with 55 bhp would do about 87 mph which was 5900 rpm. The original Cooper 'S' 1275 with 75 bhp would go to about 96 which was 5850 rpm.
Later cars had higher aerodynamic drag due to wheel arch extensions, large wing mirrors and wider wheels & tyres, so for the same power they were slower. The higher gearing also restricted top speed as the cars will not pull to maximum power in top gear, so just can't get there.
It's a complicated formula really, but drag increases as the square of the speed. Twice the speed give four times the drag.

I have a 998 w/12g295 head, 266 cam and 3.44:1 final drive.
Got about 85mph, but it was screaming at me, said about 6000rpm. It was horrible, thought pistons were going to fly out left, right and centre!
But due to the syncros in this gearbox I am going to be going back to the more civilized 3.1:1 FDR with my other gearbox. 60mph at 4200rpm wasn't pleasant on LtoB this year...

6000 revs in 4th with a 2.95 diff was easy in the Midas on the autobahn, that's 120 ish.

85 mph is 5100 rpm in top with a 3.44:1 FDR.
5100 is not a high rev figure for a 998, which is capable of cruising all day at that, and in fact the 998 Cooper used to do that easily.
Of course the A-series is not as smooth at high revs as a modern twin-cam multi valve 5-bearing small engine, but it won't blow up unless it is in poor shape.
A 998 with a 266 and a Cooper head is ideal with a 3.44:1. Any higher FDR will ruin the acceleration.

It doesn't seem that much quicker off the line than the 3.1:1 to me... Personally I think the lower rpm at high speeds and greater top end will outweigh the losses down low, I'm probably wrong, but the 3.1:1 will be more practical for me and my motorway driving, being my daily car and all that! aha

Sounds more like the final drive than a power issue, my 998 with a 2.9 dif will easily do 60mph at 3k in 4th.
