One of the very last land rover defenders when production ends might be worth keeping hold of?
Bagged one of those
but would never sell it

I looked up the BH2N run a few months back only to find it had all ended.
Maybe the R53 Cooper S, but apart from that, there isn't a great deal I can see on the road these days that would become a classic further down the line. I think the 80s and 90s cars that people have listed are already there or there abouts really. They have followings already, and its just time that will see them qualify as classic now.
Some of the 90s Mercs might make it as well one day. I'm not so sure on the BMWs though or the Audis.

Audi Quattro ... hmmmm
I was surprised to see the values of 2CVs these days. The Dollys are going for mental money.

I'm gonna put it out there, the worst ever mass production 4x4 Vauxhall Frontera, get in now before they are big time money
assuming there are any left.

R53 MINI Cooper S with great handling and supercharger whine.
Like the classic Mini Cooper S before there won't be very many unmolested immaculate examples left by the time it achieves true classic status and the prices start to climb.

If we are talking about modern day cars, I can see the new F-Type being a future classic.
Also, one of the first MINIs, Cooper S I would imagine.

When I had my Pug 205 GTi 1.9 from new I always intended to keep it for ever because I believed it would be become a classic. Someone had a different idea. Six years on one evening I felt oddly apprehensive so I kept moving it every time I saw a parking space become vacant closer to my house. It didn't do any good. It disappeared that night, never to be seen again.
I think any Alfa, apart from the Mito, would be my choice of modern classic as well as a MINI Cooper S.

Most of the cars mentioned are already modern classics in my eye as most of them are 20-25 years old already.
I think a modern car which could become a classic would be a Mazda RX8, pretty cheap these days, expensive to run though.

Old Mercs, esp coupe or convertable always become collectable with age.I nominate the E class based CLK 's from the late ninties.Good ones under 2K at the mo,even seen a 430 v8 around that money.Had one back along, awesome car.
