recieved It they said it was only running on 3 cylinders and had a water leak so they have had a little fault finding to do. They did a compression test showing 170 140 160 160 and the think they have found the cause being the rockers hitting the cover. It's probably the reason the nuts were coming loose to. They said they would call me after machining the inside of the cover and give me some new compression test results. I'm hoping to get it back in a few weeks but I have been saying that since November.

Good thread and relevant to me. Having my engine rebored to 1293 with a 274 cam, big valve head and standard ECU. Not expecting the world but I've been used to my Mayfair's 53bhp. Will report back when I get it back which should be in about 10 days time.

I have been reading through this thread as well and VERY relevant to me as well. I really wanted to do the SC conversion on my SPi as I am sick of it but it turned out to mainly be mechanical issues. A full rebuild later (and all my funds for the SC unit) and I am back!! Just drove the car to work today for the first time. Very pleased so far.
SPi bored 40 over (what does that make it again...)
Piper BP255
Calver ported head with 35.7/29.2 valves
Swiftune dual springs
Claver followers
Stock lifters with upgraded shaft
Swiftune veneer cam gears with new ISIW chain
Maniflow injection LCB, no cat, and Maniflow rear section
New OEM crank rebalanced
Motor fully blue printed
I was having issues with oil consumption, backfires and stutter/stall effects on throttle blips. Not anymore! I can already tell the difference. Motor feels really strong and revs very clean. I have not taken it to redline yet but it feels really nice. This setup is said to give around 82-85bhp. I'd love to drvie a stock SPi to really feel the difference now.

I didnt want to hi-jack this thread too much:-)
I actually had a wheel bearing issue so the car is off the road again BUT while it was on the road, it really felt like a great setup. I havent pushed it yet. Only revving to 5k but it pulls well. Not having another (stock) Spi to compare it alongside, its hard to say just how different it is. Its been on and off the road so much over the last few years I can barely remember what it was like...aside from the fact that is ate a liter or oil every 300 miles, smoked out anyone behind me like Bonds Aston would and had a terrible stall/hiccup/backfire issue. All that is a thing of the past.
