Hi, I am thinking of buying a derelict Mini van. It is 1973 and has had a 1275 metro engine dropped in.  At the moment it seems to have a Clubman type speedo cluster, but I would prefer to have the original type centre speedo.  Am I going to have problems with calibration, will I have to get a specific type of speedo?

Thank you

Adam

It all depends on your diff ratio and wheel choice. This will give you a Turns Per Mile (TPI) number.

Guess Works engine number decoder should give you the diff ration (assuming that it hasn’t been changes)

Now you know your diff ratio use this site along with your wheel choice to work out the TPI

For centre speedos the TPI number is listed on the right hand side under the millage (it’s a 4 digit number)

More than likely a 1280 TPI Smiths speedo will be OK and these are pretty comon
