Todays progress:

Yes thats right, I put two back wheels on. I was all lined up to bang the cooper S setup on, and it all turned to poo. The driveshafts and hubs are a good set from the mpi I broke up. The brake discs went on, but when I tightened the hub nut, it locked the disc from moving. Which is obviously not an ideal situation.... Rang a couple of people, and nobody could explain it - except slyoldfox, who told me that the mpi hubs are different. Bugger. So tomorrow I've got to sort another set of hubs out and hopefully I'll be able to get front brakes on it.

Things are on the move still - had half of yesterday off work, and all of today. I'm out there till 10 most nights, so I'm racking up the hours on it, thats fer damn sure! I swapped the hubs for some others I had, and the S discs fitted perfectly. Major sigh of relief there! Mum got some better pictures of it for me as well:



Today I got the discs and callipers all on and the braided hoses:


Added sound deadening pads to the back - they've made a real difference already:


I've also riveted the headlamp bowls in, fitted the front indicators properly and screwed all the rear lights on.


And for my final trick, I painted the cab area out. Makes it look a lot better!


At this rate I think it may be possible to get it running by christmas. Maybe.

ooh goodies, so now the front suspensions all bolted in place...does it mean the vans sat on all rather nice fours?

Thanks everyone. I don't know exactly when it will be on the road, but I don't think its gonna be toooo long. The amount of work I can get done now with it at home instead of having to go to the unit to do anything is amazing. Brakes are pretty much done, the engine is built up ready to drop in, I've got most of the interior bits sorted - it really is just a big jigsaw puzzle now. The hardest thing I think will be the dashboard and wiring it all up. Its not down on all fours yet because its easier to leave it on the lift - I can put it at whatever height I need to work on it. The ultimate in laziness!

Got to admit, I love the colour, looks almost like a "tweed grey" but in metallic form!

Getting it running wouldnt be a problem, I could have it running in 2 weeks I reckon if I had all the bits. I want to get it on the road as the finished article though, so I can just enjoy it once its MOT'd and not have to keep messing with it. We'll see closer the time for a race!
